MCCONNEL: its a terrible vote for the GOP. Theyd have to vote it down, which makes it seem like they are anti Trump, he said

(15,286 posts)for months now, but maybe Putin acknowledging Biden's victory will keep Johnson from objecting.
They - and several others - have on 2024 very much in mind.
And every Repug knows that the name of the game for the nomination will be a perceived devotion to Needy Amin.

(15,286 posts)but at least none of them will have to go on record actually voting "against" Trump. I guess that qualifies as a "win-win" solution.

(3,334 posts)not because it would be wrong, but because it would upset Trump.

(15,286 posts)McConnell is saying don't object because if you do, then the Senate will have to vote on it and you'll end up having to vote. If there aren't any objections, then no one has to go record or offend Trump/cultists.

(4,921 posts)There is basically zero chance the results would be overturned (House has to vote to overturn) so if they object and then vote, the base will see it as voting against Trump. I don't believe Mitch cares about Trump in this scenario, but in making sure the base doesn't get pissed off.
That said, please know I'm not excusing him. He's a dick.

(3,707 posts)The Base??!! The Al Qaeda of the anti-democratic-bois; America's base-turd weltanschauung.
The base has abased this nation, once a bastion of democracy.
No cook knows a baste able to tenderize their base hearts.
The base will crumble long before a statue rises.
That's basically it.

(18,837 posts)I get the feeling that Mo Brooks is too worked up, that regardless of how the Senate responds, we'll still have some political theater on the House floor.

(17,863 posts)Will the two incumbent Senators be able to participate in rulemaking with the start of Congress
Will the new Senators be certified by the Jan. 6th electoral vote date and be able to participate?
The runoff doesn't align very well with the Congressional calendar.

(9,263 posts)I don't see any GOP senator in the 4 challenged states signing a challenge with one of their house members. There be 5 minute grandstanding time allocated.

Nice to know the GOP has priorities.
