The Ohio special election sets up a clash between left-wing and establishment-oriented Democrats.

Top progressive elected officials, groups and entertainers are throwing their weight behind Nina Turners congressional campaign, setting up a clash between left-wing and establishment-oriented Democrats over a House seat in Ohio just as President-elect Joe Biden is about to take office.
Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), Bernie Sanders former campaign co-chair; Rep.-elect Cori Bush (D-Mo.), a Black Lives Matter activist who unseated an incumbent Democrat; and Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison are endorsing Turner, her campaign told POLITICO. Our Revolution, a progressive organization founded by Sanders and previously led by Turner, will be backing her bid as well.
To drum up excitement around her candidacy, liberals plan on tapping their volunteer base and raising money for her from their small-dollar donors.
Nina will bring a phenomenal commitment to a $15 minimum wage, Medicare for All and free public college. I am all in for her, said Khanna. This is an endorsement of conviction. I will be emailing my list, raising money and mobilizing volunteers.

Hortensis
(58,785 posts)by making that the brand name of LW populists, claiming all our ideals and goals as their own and that we were corporatist enemies of progressivism. That got a tiny fraction of their people elected, but unfortunately their successes against Democrats also included helping elect Trump and Republican majorities across the nation.
Now looks like a group that includes a large proportion of IL-liberal, very hostile, anti-Democratic populists may be going to posture as America's Only True Liberals.
Young people always include some relatively easy pickings, but their problem going forward is going to that populist lies and aggression against America's liberals are not going to draw in America's liberal voters. Nor do America's liberals want socialist revolution; we already had our revolution, which peoples around the planet have been copying ever since.

(7,702 posts)...is great to hear, for a dad who raked-out plenty to get her to that point! As long as her bosses are good with her reports, then the rest is just the opinion of others.
I used to write op-eds for the local papers for profit. Definitely better than writing for free!

(37,748 posts)But wrapping paper rarely advertises the actual contents. Your is nice wrapping. Unsourced, uncited and overly-broad, but... nice. I s'pose. Great, indeed.
But were all Democrats, and as you said, Democrats are fighters. In fact you said, Democrats... "will do anything to win. Fight, battle, destroy and yes, even hurt the feelings of pundits and other critics."

(14,971 posts)Shontel Brown (Democratic Party) is a member of the Cuyahoga County Council, representing District 9 in Ohio. She assumed office in 2015.
Brown (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Cuyahoga County Council to represent District 9 in Ohio. She won in the general election on November 6, 2018.

Brown decided to run for public office, serving three years on the Warrensville Heights City Council before becoming District 9 representative on the Cuyahoga County Council. But it was all a prelude to her current position.
In 2017, Brown was elected chair of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party. She is the first woman, and the first African American, to hold the position. https://www.tri-c.edu/news-and-events/news/county-democratic-party-chair-started-her-path-at-tri-c.html

Look farther left than 200 liberals in congress for the liberals mentioned here.

(42,862 posts)That Polly Gottawhine character is less of a reporter and more of a water-carrier. More than once, I've observed her idea of "reporting" was to cut and paste some candidate's press release... damn-near word-for-word.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)strong and consistent anti-Democratic partisan, which I've always assumed is what Politico, etc., want or it wouldn't be allowed. Does she actually report for media that would require her to adhere to journalistic ethics and standards? Maybe she only does commentary and isn't a reporter at all.

(42,862 posts)Here's a link for the folks who often argue that she didn't actually say that. Or that it's taken out of context. (Lord!) https://www.huffpost.com/entry/nina-turner-joe-biden_n_5f200c04c5b638cfec49ecd5
First of all... the word "forced" is pretty damn revealing of her mental state. But those other three words ("as a Democrat'') are a clear and unmistakable admission that she doesn't identify as being a Democrat, and that this association with the Democratic party is merely a technicality (ie: a means to an end).
Whatever I can afford, I'll donate to her opponent.
Botany

(42,862 posts)She talks too LOUD (even when she's got a lapel mic) and she talks too FAST! I can barely understand what she's trying to say and she's aggressive, won't let others speak (even the host or interviewer), she won't give direct answers to direct questions, she interrupts others and she interrupts the host/interviewer.
It just baffles me why she has any "following" at all.
It's offensive to me that she's compared Biden to a "BOWL OF SHIT" and it's also offensive that she feels that she's being "forced" to run "as a Democrat" (as if it's BENEATH her... as if she has to LOWER herself as a means to an end.)

(90,714 posts)Why, please tell me why, every time Sanders fans divide up the political landscape, I and my ilk end up as not liberals ?
Democratic big tent not big enough for the actual backbone of the Party, meaning all those whove spent a lifetime supporting and upholding and expanding the basic tenets of the tent?
Maybe Nina Turner et al. need to erect their own tent. After all, she herself has already said she is not a Democrat, and only running as one because there is nothing better, which I take to mean the Democrats are stupid enough to let her use our name despite her despising us.
Just sayin
PS: when someone has made it clear they dont think of themselves as a Democrat, it is not bashing fellow Dems to point that out.
