Covid relief bill pays extra $300 a week in jobless benefits, extends aid for 4 months

A Covid relief package released by a bipartisan group of senators Monday night would pay unemployed workers an extra $300 a week and extend jobless benefits for four months.

These unemployment provisions are in line with a draft legislative framework the group released last week.

The $300 weekly enhancement to benefits would not be retroactive. The federal government would pay the subsidy for any period of unemployment from Dec. 26 until April 19.

That weekly subsidy would follow two prior stipends paid by the federal government: a $600 boost provided by the CARES Act through July, and a $300 Lost Wages Assistance payment created by President Donald Trump with federal disaster-relief funds.

be over in four months. Then what, battle with McTurtle and the republicans all over again?

The Speaker passed a relief bill in May for a bit more than 2 trillion and McTurtle did nothing and now this bill is being negotiated for $900 billion, thus the big cut.

There's already many people who either never received benefits at all or are being forced to repay thousands in overpayments. The extra $300 isn't going to help them either.

And those talking about not enough, I would just like an extension so i am not kicked off let a lone 600. We just need to quit messing around and get it done.

The Senate proposal not only grants corporate lawsuit immunity...it gets better.

Empower the United States Attorney General to deem coronavirus-related lawsuits from workers, customers and attorneys “meritless” and then file civil actions against them as retribution. In order to “vindicate the public interest,” courts would be allowed to fine respondents up to $50,000.

If my Dem Senator voted for anything that included this I would see them primaried by God.

As for primarying Democrats, consider we barely have the house...and if we lose the house the GOP is set up for stealing the election in 2024 in Congress. $300 a week in UE and extending it another 17 weeks is a life savor for people. The PUA benefit right now is $160 a week. $460 a week is the different between making it and not making it for millions.

My wife is one of these people, that $300 extra a week will save us from some real financial hardship. And it would get her through to late Spring.
