priority, 8 days ago. It was part of a quilt my wife is making someone for Christmas. My wife looked up the tracking number...was supposed to arrive last Friday. It is still in transit!
I've asked people at the local post office. They are really struggling...loads of delays, loads of complaints...and prices are skyrocketing.
I mailed my daughter's gifts today at UPS, far less cost, should be there in 2 days
More DeJoy fallout???

1/5 was delivered yesterday. The others are still in transit, a couple of them not even close to their final distribution centers.

(3,581 posts)For gifts I ordered online, if they ship UPS or FedEx, they arrive on time, no problem. But if USPS touches it, all bets are off.
I ordered something from NYC that was shipped through that deal where UPS turns it over to the Post Office at some point. Tracking indicates that a week ago, it was in my state... an hour away from me... then it went back to the state to the east of me... and there have been no updates since it was turned over to USPS.

(4,393 posts)per Informed Delivery which was down most of yesterday, I'm assuming something to do with the major data breach or some Special MAIL holiday, and haven't had the courage to check to see if those packages have made any progress getting out to my burb let alone set for delivery...I'm being patient but....then again, UPS delivered a package to me today that wasn't mine - close, but no cigar! Not even sure throwing more (or less) money at it will get stuff shipped any faster. Then, if it's coming from overseas, that's another waiting/lost game...I scored some great Blitz prices on some WISH items late in October (winter boots and small cross-body bag) that have luckily been recently reimbursed as "no-shows" quite easily--weird. (LOL - got the potty light, though).

(10,885 posts)Portland, Oregon, on 12/4 via USPS, and first got stuck in Ohio and then in CT. Supposedly it's on the move again, but haven't had an update since Sunday. Wouldn't care so much normally, but Consumer Cellular stops supporting my old phone at end of December. Also, I need to sign for the package, so have to plan to be here on the day it arrives. The question is "When will that be?" Now we have a big storm coming in tomorrow night into Thursday for further delays.
In contrast, I mailed a package on 12/07, destined for Sweden. Tracking shows it left JFK on 12/11, so should be somewhere in Europe at this time. They'll get their package before I get mine!

(8,168 posts)I've had packages just sit for 2-3 days in one of their hubs 2x in just the past week.
At least I saw a notification that they were overwhelmed between the larger number of packages and less employees due to Covid, so they're not denying that they have issues right now.

A HERETIC I AM
(24,370 posts)The volume for the USPS goes up so much this time of year that in many large metro areas they rent warehouse space to handle the extra mail. They call these temporary facilities an "annex" and they are used to sort almost exclusively parcels.
Here's what one looks like before the volume really picks up;
A view showing the loading dock doors;
Imagine that entire space, every square foot of it, except aisles for the machinery to move around, completely filled.
Here's a picture of a regular dock at a distribution center on a normal workday;
The forklift driver at the right wasn't too happy with me for snapping the pic, but he didn't say a word.

(7,869 posts)It's basically become almost a weekly occurrence for me, returning mail to the post office that was misdelivered to me or, just today, delivering a package to a house down the street that they left at my home. I have never seen them make so many mistakes as they have over the past few months. Usually misdelivered mail would happen maybe twice a year; now, it's happening several times each month recently.

(34,136 posts)I asked and asked my husband to go in last week to buy the pre-paid Visa cards to send to our great niece and nephews. He finally bought them this afternoon. I have to sit down tonight and address all the envelopes so he can mail them in the morning.
Last year when I sent them out the first week of December, two of the envelopes didn't arrive until Christmas Eve. I'm so pissed that my husband could not take a swing by the store last week to get these out as soon as possible even though he was in town five days of the week.
We also have two packages that he needs to pack up - and I've been trying to get at least one of those done for a month. Since he used to do that at his FedEx job, he insists he is the only one in the house that can do it - if he would only get around to it!
As far as I am concerned, none of this really needs to arrive by Christmas but damn, it would be nice if stuff arrived by then.

(90,714 posts)...trying to stay afloat. Remember how DeJoy told everybody to not work past 5pm, but to dump any leftover mail back at the station? Were at the end of the line, and not getting ours until 9:00 pm lately, which tells me hes delivering everything as best he can.

(70,711 posts)It's been about two years since I bought any, email you know. So I was recently down to my last stamp and expected change from a ten dollar bill -------- hah, heard the price and echoed, "Eleven dollars?!1" And the clerk said, "Excuse me, you only wanted *one* stamp?!"
I said no and added on a dollar bill, and involuntarily exhaled "Eleven dollars!1". The clerk sort of pushed the book towards me without a word and even (forgot?) to give me the receipt to send me on my way as though saying *really*?!1
Sticker (oh, a pun) shock.

In Transit, Arriving Late
Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility.
And it's just an envelope with postage stamps for pete's sake. DeJoy needs to go. They've ruined a wonderful government service.

(6,688 posts)Congress either puts them as a fully funded government agency, or else gets out of their business completely.
The federal requirements regarding retiree pension and medical care benefits are ridiculous. In addition they aren't free to fully negotiate their own vendor contracts, or pricing to it's largest mass mailers. Congress critters keep their fingers in it and use that to get deals for their sponsors. Federal agencies required to use USPS for mailing citizens DON'T pay a fair rate for the service, so USPS is not adequately compensated.
They get NO taxpayer funds, but are expected to cater to the federal government.

(5,008 posts)they are short on help due to large volume and covid. My mom mailed a package to us via Priority mail Monday of last week. Over a week ago and it is still not here. Plus it is not being scanned. I have several packages floating around out there. Some are Amazon. Wish I would have had an option to ship my orders via ups or fed ex.

(31,394 posts)that had to be received by them prior to Dec 23rd or they would close my appeal to them using my 2019 Tax return to means test the deduction for Medicare Part B on my monthly SS payment. They want to pay me LESS each month next year than they have been paying me this year, based on one aberrant year of income due to the death of my husband. All subject to appeal as long as I provide the documentation.
I asked the postal clerk what to expect for delivery time for a priority mail folder. She said 2-3 days, but could be more. I didn't want to trust it, so I opted for the Overnight Express mail that cost almost $20. more, figuring it was worth it if my appeal is granted and they don't end up reducing my payment by over $600 next year due to the means testing deduction for Medicare Part B.
They damn well better grant my appeal. They basically gave me one week to respond (because their letter to me took 8 days to get here) or they would drop my appeal. If I hadn't kept one certified copy of the death certificate, I would have been SOL. They wouldn't accept a photocopy, even though I had to give them a certified death certificate almost two years ago when I filed for widow's benefits. What do they think has happened since then? He returned to life and hasn't since died again?
Overnight Express mail is guaranteed to be delivered by 10:30 am tomorrow. I will be checking to see it is delivered.

(32,645 posts)Why couldn't you just scan the document and email it? That takes 10 or 15 minutes, tops.
Even if you don't have a computer scanner I'm sure you know someone who does. Worst case, you can take it to any Fedex Office (formerly Kinko's) and their photo copiers are also scanners.
Emailing your document to the Social Security office is just as secure as mailing them a piece of paper. Maybe even more secure.

(31,394 posts)It took 10 days for it to leave the regional post office facility in NY and then arrive the same day (Dec 13) at the regional post office facility in Raleigh where it has been sitting ever since.
Mailed Dec 3. Sitting for now 13 days at regional post office facilities. I wonder if the post office folks at Raleigh will not want to be outdone by their brethren in NY and decide to hold it for 11 days? That way they could claim it arrived just in time for Christmas!

(129,109 posts)and it only took him 7 months to crush something that was created (officially under what is now the U.S.) 233 years ago!
I have an Amazon item that was sent as a 1st class package on 12/7/20 and there's still no update since 12/12/20 after it left Las Vegas. Have a Penzy's item that they accepted on 12/11/20 that was due for delivery yesterday and there has been no update since it left Wisconsin. And have a small biz priority mail package accepted 12/13/20 in Florida (granted, it was done on a Sunday) and due for delivery 12/18/20 (most likely won't happen even though it is now sitting here in a Philly distribution center somewhere).
I did get some mail yesterday at 7:25 pm last night by a poor guy who had a head-lamp on because it's dark here by 5 pm. It's obvious they were not permitted to hire and/or couldn't recruit their usual extra employees this year (I don't believe the lack of employment interest as they usually start gearing up for that well before Christmas and that time frame was when they were actively destroying the institution to eliminate mail-in ballots , including ending overtime at many locations, so probably never advertised the positions).
I feel so so sorry for the poor government employees who have had to suffer under that jackass.
