If they'd know how well they were going to do in down ballot, they could have reallocated money to try and take 11 seats where Democrats won by less than 5%, where Republicans spent less tha $1.0 M per race.

(51,574 posts)When Cook claims only $1M was spent on those candidates, he isn't counting the millions in so called "third party" PAC ads spent in those races. That's how the GOP rolls, not direct contributions.
Also, and I can speak of this from personal knowledge since I live in Dem Harley Rouda's Orange County, CA House district, his GOP opponent flouded covid safety rules and sent people knocking on every door in my neighborhood to get out the vote. Harley Rouda, because he is a decent human being and takes Covid-19 seriously, did not use this powerful GOTV tool during this election, unlike in his successful run in 2018 (when I was one of Harley's door knockers).
