"Kelly and David are getting hammered," Mitch McConnell told GOP senators, explicitly linking Loeffler/Perdue travails to the new stimulus compromise. This shows pressure works. But it also suggests that if Rs hold the Senate, they won't deliver again:
Opinion | Mitch McConnell gives away the game: Kelly and David are getting hammered
A stark admission about the vulnerability of Georgia's two GOP senators.

Pressure works. Thats what were learning from the news that congressional negotiators are moving towards a deal on an economic rescue package that includes stimulus checks for individuals.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has now suggested on a private conference call with GOP senators that a key reason for this movement is that the two Georgia Republican senators, both of whom face runoffs in January, are getting hammered over Congress failure to pass a new rescue bill.
But this news doesnt just tell us that Republicans are feeling heat from this failure. The likelihood that this played a key role in moving Republicans also underscores how unlikely they are to help the economy and the country next year, if they do retain control of the Senate.
CNNs Manu Raju reports that on the call with GOP Senators on Wednesday, the Senate Majority Leader said that the lack of stimulus payments has become a big issue in the runoffs:
Kelly and David are getting hammered on the issue, he said, according to a source who heard his remarks, a reference to incumbent GOP Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, who are both facing off against Democratic challengers.

(17,390 posts)McConnell does not care about the people. He fears Putin more than he does his own constituents. If Loeffler/Perdue win, McConnell will just do the same stuff he did with President Obama and try to torpedo the economy in the name of austerity knowing that due to Demographics, he holds a natural advantage in holding Senate seats.

(7,403 posts)Presents problems with getting things out of Committee. A tie vote means it doesn't report out. But it is huge in determining what measures the Senate considers and that is where the real action is. And the first Senate opening could very well flip who controls the Senate. One reason even flipping 1 of the Georgia seats is important.

(15,649 posts)particular. Putin has had two major agents working for and with him in his quest to permanently destabilize the USA: Trump and McConnell. Most of the others are small players; they benefit from Russian $ and interference, but arent full agents with the exception of a relative few - like Nunes.

So it's not because the People of the Country are suffering; without jobs; starving and may get evicted?
Wow!!! How altruistic the Repugs are.
Very benevolent and noble-minded.
Who would have guessed that they might come to some agreement on this deal for a selfish reason?

(58,785 posts)have no conscience, life's big thrills to manipulate others for self advantage. Some get off on cruelty, but my best guess is probably not him; he just doesn't care.
McConnell's lifelong ambition has famously never gone beyond the accumulation and exercise of personal power itself. His museum in KY shows off particularly successful dishonest ads that secured his reelections, but is pathetically bare of the kind of meaningful achievement most would want to leave as a legacy of 30 years of rising to the pinnacle of congressional power.
McConnell's not the only one bringing the average way up in the Republican congressional caucuses. So, a lot of people not only guessed but expected all along.

(32,017 posts)Sociopathy, of course, is one of 4 Cluster B disorders, but, from what I can tell, none of them have consciences, or, more precisely, they have weak consciences that actually get weaker as they get older. I doubt Mitch feels much of anything at this point in his long life. He has to pretend to feel. Thats why his laugh is so creepy and unnatural. Theyre all emotionally retarded, and they inevitably get more emotionally retarded as they age.

(14,572 posts)Watched an Georgia Tech basketball game, both perdue and loffler had multiple ads. Same over the top, completely made up Democrats going to raise taxes, socialism, etc bullshit.
We just can't win these kinds of close races in places like these until we find a way to develop universal negative frames about republicans and repeat them until the become as ingrained as this shit.
This is why they win. It not only solidifies their zombie base, it flakes the "independents.,"

(54,436 posts)Oh, yes, now I remember-- Lindsey Graham was "worried" about getting "hammered" by Jaime Harrison in the Senate race in South Carolina. Except that he didn't.
I'll believe they're nervous on election night, when they are neck and neck, and the Atlanta area votes haven't been counted yet.

(2,584 posts)All polls, even Harrisons internals, showed neck in neck. How Graham pulled
off a 12% win is kind of weird, should be investigated.

(54,436 posts)They probably polled in Charleston and Columbia and didn't bother to canvas the backwoods parts that are spread out and where 95% of the people think Trump and Graham were chosen by God, who registered Republican 6000 years before the party was even founded.

(1,616 posts)timing is hammering them. Small business's is the lifeblood of GA. my line of work I talk to many owners. They are cratering and still no stimulus. Plus the GOP circular firing squad here in the State and Trump refusal to concede which is motivating Dems hand over fist. Awful timing and events for the GOP.

(2,039 posts)And I think that's what Nancy should do. She's got them on the ropes. Demand that the bill include $1,200 cash to Americans per month for the next six months or until the majority of Americans are vaccinated. Watch the Republicans squirm.
But, borrowing from the Republican playbook, that $1,200 per month would just be a red herring. After the Republicans refused, then come back with "Okay, we'll compromise! $1,200 per month for three months!"
Just keep putting it back on them. Back them into a corner. That's what Mitch would do.
