Woman Says Hotel Ignored Screams for Help

Woman Says Hotel Ignored Screams for Help

DALLAS (CN) - A woman claims that when men broke into her room at a La Quinta Inn and raped her repeatedly, management responded to her screams by accepting, through the closed door, the word of "an unidentified male or males who assured said representative that no criminal activity was in progress."

...

Doe, a catering company worker, says she was in Austin on Jan. 17-18 to work at Gov. Rick Perry's most recent inauguration. She says the Dallas catering and restaurant firm she worked for was contracted to cater the inauguration, and that her employer reserved a block of rooms at the hotel.

...
"Plaintiff would show that in the subsequent hours, she was repeatedly raped, sexually assaulted, and physically and mentally traumatized as she repeatedly screamed for help. On multiple occasions, the occupants of adjoining rooms contacted the front office of defendant's establishment to complain about the screams and cries emanating from plaintiff's room. ...

&quot O)n at least two occasions, a representative of defendant approached and knocked on the door of the plaintiff's room only to be met by an unidentified male or males who assured said representative that no criminal activity was in progress. Although plaintiff's room was reserved in her name, the defendants' representative neither asked nor talked to the plaintiff in order to verify her security and safety. Plaintiff would further show that the entry door to the plaintiff's room had been broken and the defendant's representative either did not notice or disregarded signs of a forced entry.

thing I did was call the cops so there would be backup coming. Then I went to see if I could do anything.

I wasn't a hotel worker when it happened, though, and am aware some of them are brain dead, told to rely on hotel security, and/or told not to call the cops unless there's obviously a crime because it would look bad for the place.

Many people say just the opposite of TSS. He is in fact a bit of a Libertarian. He does tend to post provocative OPs but that is no reason to attack him. He may get peoples dander up now and then with what he links, but that is a good thing for DU. Discussing uncomfortable topics makes us better as a community. You may not like his posts but attacking TSS as anti-male is out of line.

Tue Jan 10, 2012, 03:40 PM
Jan 2012

I post stories that don't always paint some Christians in a good light, and I consider myself a Christian. Some show America and it's action in a bad light, and yet I am an American.

This was not a story about a man raping a woman, it was a story about the people who did nothing to stop it.

I post stories about women who kill their kids (and usually note that when it happens some people will blame the man in some way, ala the lady who drowned her kids in the tub and folks were sympathetic to her and blaming the husband), I don't think all women do that or are prone to it.

yeah, I see man bashing here at times, and Christian bashing, folks who would be up in arms if you posted about illegal immigrants from being south of the border (even though most are).

I hope I am intelligent to separate issues and realize that things make news because they are not the norm (I don't think most Christians want to stone people and I don't think all catholic priests are molesters).

People should be outraged at some things, point them out - but I don't think we should label all and judge others on it. Stereotypes (and I have used them) are generally not conducive to discussion (but it can be easy for folks do so, like on the right when they talk about welfare and black people, that would not stand here and I don't some of the bashing should either).

I seriously doubt it. This is just a group of women wanting to feel to superior towards us men and harass and lecture us over stuff we don't even do. Get over yourselves already or take it out on someone who actually IS a rapist.

In a shared college house. She was being teased. She said she'd call 911 and did. When the cops came, they didn't take the word of the person at the door that it was a joke call. They confirmed that everyone in the house was safe.
