Do we have reason to believe otherwise? Has it been previously suggested that she would do such a thing? Is that statement meant to separate and differentiate herself from someone else who *would* make vaccination demands, but not get one for themselves? If yes, who? If no, then why phrase it that way?
All I'm trying to say is that it's a very odd tweet, and it wasn't written in a very clear way.

LizBeth
(9,952 posts)Yes, there are a lot of reasons, having paid attention for months now I am well aware of it and regardless of the reasons, she stated out loud on Monday that she didn't know she could vote for me even though I am on a deadline that is almost over. I have a couple days.
Sanders did it the previous Monday when Pelosi had the momentum coming in that Monday and BOOOM... Sanders has to put out to the nation he would NOT vote for the bill. Then Sanders started working on a stand alone bill for 1200, not a mention or consideration toward UI, or the desperation being on a timeline.
All the other noise stops. Sanders and AOC felt the need to put out the statement and that was talk directly at me.

....
Hawley and Sanders, political opposites, emerged as Congress's latest odd couple to push for Congress to pass a second round of $1,200 stimulus checks either as a stand-alone bill or part of a sweeping coronavirus and government funding deal that is still being agreed to by leadership.
Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) aligned himself with Sanders on Friday.
The quickest way to get money into the pockets of the American people is too send some of their tax dollars right back where they came from. So let's step up the plate. ... I support Senator Sanders's request fully and hope the Senate will consent, Schumer said.

(9,952 posts)was. Sanders stated he would not vote my deadline UI and as far as I am concerned stopped the momentum that could have gotten it done last week to throw in the battle of the 1200.
I KNOW what happened, where we are, what is being discussed, who and when participated. And Sanders threw me under the bus for his 1200 that is not a deadline. Sanders has done little to nothing for months an two weeks before the deadline he throws in a wrench...

I would at least say if I could give mine to someone else, instead a tutorial as if I am a child, stuck in my h0ome, about to be kicked off UI. While they fight in the house. Pelosi anyway. AOC said thinking not voting for the bill....

(34,069 posts)Harris and AOC are not similarly situated - so suggesting that they are being treated differently because of Harris isn't AOC is ridiculous. Harris would be treated differently because she is the vice-president elect, and the vice president elect should be at the front of the line for national security reasons. I can't imagine anyone disagrees with that. Many of us would disagree that members of Congress should be at the front of the line merely because of their status as a member of Congress.
TexasTowelie
(112,157 posts)Nancy Pelosi. I certainly understand the necessity for both of them to received the vaccine since they are in leadership positions. Incidentally, about 87% of the contributions to her campaign came from outside the 14th District - indeed from outside New York State.
PTWB
(4,131 posts)Are you under the impression that the post you were replying to has anything to do with the number of constituents in AOC's district? It doesn't.
AOC's district consists of, as you said, around 700,000 people. She has 10.9 million twitter followers (a very large reach indeed). She did a great service by broadcasting her message of vaccine safety to those followers.
I can't help but notice you posted an OP sharing a tweet from Speaker Pelosi in which she publicized her own experience taking the vaccine. Thank you for doing that! I'm proud of Speaker Pelosi for doing so and leading by example. Her district also has 700,000 people--it's just slightly smaller than AOC's district, but she broadcast the message to her 6.1 million followers because she, like AOC, has a very loud megaphone to broadcast her message.
Incidentally, about 78% of the contributions to Speaker Pelosi's campaign came from outside the 12th District of California and 66% from outside of the state of California.
This isn't an attack on Pelosi, I think she's the most effective speaker we've had in many years. I'm merely using your own line of reasoning to show that wildly popular politicians, like Speaker Pelosi and AOC, tend to garner significant support from outside their districts.
Promoting vaccine safety in the face of all the misinformation is critically important. This isn't a progressive vs moderate issue or an up-and-comer vs seasoned leader issue. This is a public health issue. There is plenty of room to heap praise upon all of our Democratic superstars.
George II

As we often say at LCV, elections have consequences, and President-elect Joe Bidens dream team of climate champions makes that abundantly clear. These visionary leaders will ensure that the Biden-Harris administration fights hard every single day for the health of all communities and centers bold climate action in racial justice and equity. A low amount also means you are less/ not contagious. They are just being super conservative in what they say because it hasn't been scientifically proven yet.
I'm old but healthy. I would prefer the people most likely to be hospitalized/ have severe covid be the first; our hospitals are crowded and some are overwhelmed. But I have no problem with AOC being vacced before me because 1) she is more important than me, and 2) we're talking about only 538 people. There are many more than that ahead of me and it's a drop in the bucket.
