Vaccines and Leadership:

It is with great interest that I read in the Tulsa World that Senators Lankford and Inhofe were at the front of the line to receive the Covid19 vaccine. I am sure they think they were showing "leadership" by demonstrating to that they think it's "safe and effective." However, it calls attention to their lack of leadership on the issue of masks, social distancing, other preventative behaviors.

Almost from the very beginning, masks have been recommended, yet there is Sen. Lankford appearing in a Tulsa World photo with the entire mask-less Oklahoma delegation waiting to welcome a mask-less president to a super-spreader event. While he is currently being seen wearing masks, he has yet to condemn large Trump rallies, mega-church services and other high-risk events and has argued against mandates that could lessoned the outrageous death toll (315,000+).

Senator Inhofe, when asked about what precautions he was taking, famously ridiculed a reporter by extending his arm and saying "Wanna shake hands?" By continually downplaying the risks of the pandemic and having earned the reputation as the top science denier in the Senate, it seems at jarring to see him at the front of vaccination line.

To be fair, somebody other than our two senators probably placed them at the head of the line. But Senators Lankford and Inhofe could have demonstrated true leadership by giving up their doses to a frontline nurse or an ER doctor.

All this while being told they are there to take care of us, fighting for us, and can do better than our Liberal Dems like Pelosi, and Pelosi has been there every step of the way fighting for me, and you, and kept us informed all the way showing us she knew the importance, dire need. If there’s evidence a person was maskless or encouraged others to be maskless they should be banned from the vaccine. They took their chances and shouldn’t be taking away others.

Now’s their chance to get what they were asking for without harming the rest of us who would get vaccinated.

that because they are politicians, celebrities or athletes they are using themselves as role models or examples to people that might be anti-vaccine.

That is the con that is going on now and that is why so many of them are jumping ahead of the line to get the vaccine.

Many might be paying money to jump the line - but they use the role-model/example excuse.

Must be nice to be among the privileged class.

Tue Dec 22, 2020, 09:55 AM
Dec 2020
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/08/health/covid-vaccine-mask.html

Here’s Why Vaccinated People Still Need to Wear a Mask

The new vaccines will probably prevent you from getting sick with Covid. No one knows yet whether they will keep you from spreading the virus to others — but that information is coming.

The new Covid-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna seem to be remarkably good at preventing serious illness. But it’s unclear how well they will curb the spread of the coronavirus.

That’s because the Pfizer and Moderna trials tracked only how many vaccinated people became sick with Covid-19. That leaves open the possibility that some vaccinated people get infected without developing symptoms, and could then silently transmit the virus — especially if they come in close contact with others or stop wearing masks.

If vaccinated people are silent spreaders of the virus, they may keep it circulating in their communities, putting unvaccinated people at risk.

“A lot of people are thinking that once they get vaccinated, they’re not going to have to wear masks anymore,” said Michal Tal, an immunologist at Stanford University. “It’s really going to be critical for them to know if they have to keep wearing masks, because they could still be contagious.”

They were not included in the first round of vaccines. They now have to wait until next week to even be considered for the second round.

We provide our military with second-to-none technology and top-quality healthcare (socialism at work). We outfit our police with top-notch, military-grade weaponry, good pay, great benefits during their employment (thanks to unions) and pensions after retirement (socialism at work). We provide fire fighters with the latest and greatest equipment that money can buy, great benefits during their employment (thanks to unions) and pensions after retirement (socialism at work). We provide our political "leaders" and "representatives" with great pay, the best healthcare (for life) and pensions after they qualify (socialism at work). Since healthcare is a for-profit, private industry, our healthcare workers get so much less than what they deserve. It is absolutely appalling that those who are putting their lives on the line every time they go to work at a hospital and/or clinic are not the first to receive the vaccine.

I have always thought this procedure was unfair. If you signed up for a vaccination, you should get it. None of this---"lets see if it worked on this patient".

I have hope that this distribution works but I have a feeling that things are going to get even more messed up. Distribution problems immediately. Unfair choice of recipients. (rich and famous need to be first in line).

When the healthcare workers can't even get the vaccine, how can anyone else come first.
I'm mad as heck about this. Doctors, nurses and others are still waiting but celebrities get it.
Boy, what a messed up project. I realize the logistics are complicated but when Tom Hanks( Yes, I like him) et al get the shot and the hospital staff that cares for the patients does not...something is wrong with the whole thing.

Many states did not get the # of doses they were promised. Who was the genius that handled the allotment and distribution?

His regional office was in my little town, and his replacement is from here as well.

SO we got the vaccine for distribution, 1 of 10 hospitals in NC to get it first. I was surprised, then not surprised. Meanwhile, we're having an outbreak here from a superspreader church event earlier this month, 100 cases so far. And while each site that gets it has their own guidelines on who gets the vaccine, I'm sure most reserve some for the VIPs.

The current administration has rolled out this distribution plan. Friends, family, donors, favored constituents are getting first dibs. I'm under 60, not expecting to be offered vaccine for a year, but then again, my county has (obvious?) connections.
