December 22, 2020 at 8:14 am EST By Taegan Goddard
In the other Senate runoff, Raphael Warnock (D) leads Sen. Kelly Loeffler (R), 52% to 45%
From the pollster: Georgia is a hot mess and no opinion pollster could possibly say what will happen when votes are counted in 2 weeks Any outcome is possible, including victories for the 2 Republican incumbent US Senators. But: the polling data at this hour does not support that, and heading into Christmas week, Democratic challengers Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock appear to be benefiting at least momentarily from a GOP cacophony.

(4,716 posts)Especially after the election we just had.
The default should just be:
Act as if were 5 points down. From sun up to sun down.
And I worry that this COVID relief bill just passed will help the GOP.
Oh look! Our elected officials are watching out for us! And Purdue/Loeffler will hammer it on the campaign trail that the loser Libs did everything they could to obstruct them from passing a bill to help the American public.
Never mind that the House passed a good bipartisan bill like a half a year ago.
Messaging is everything!!!!

(6,549 posts)Voter. It seems like pollsters are just pulling data from their asss most of the time!

(2,647 posts)Forecasts are by nature inexact. They just predict possible outcomes, where in reality, only one will actually happen.

(23,016 posts)I'm not sure why pollsters managed to make accurate predictions in the Presidential and Senate races for Georgia then but were often far off in other places. We can hope that the same holds true for Georgia now.

(17,321 posts)They would lose in November. Dont trust the polls anymore but I trust the GOP even less.

(19,702 posts)they're wrong....if they're honest, anyway. The question isn't if they're wrong or not, it's how wrong are they and why. So many things can go wrong, from not guessing which segments will actually show up at the polls in large numbers to just randomness in sampling. Humans don't act with the precision and consistency of Newtonian mechanics, so some would say it's foolish to expect any reasonable amount of certainty in applying mathematics to human behavior. But some brave souls still try.

(24,949 posts)They have 600 people on the ground going very targeted and safely GOTV. They want to get more people door to door. As AL Franken says in this interview "door knock for Wornock" of course Ossoff, too.
There are many other groups going door to door for Wornock and Ossoff. So fingers crossed.

As a member of a high-risk household, Im not up for door-to-door canvassing, but Im happy to support Unite Here.

(21,968 posts)Polls still have some validity, but are taken with a big grain of salt. Georgia polls were pretty accurate though, including this one.
I think not having Trump on the ballot is the X Factor. We'll see how that plays out, but right now it's looking like we've got a 50% chance at winning each race.

(47,925 posts)MAGAts won't answer their phones and don't trust pollsters whom they think are part of the Deepest State. So perhaps they are undercounted and aren't truthful. Ya think?
So the only hope here is they are unmotivated. It's hard to believe they are not hearing about it on TV or from the MAGAt echo chamber.
So I'd say flip those polls by 6% to get a more accurate guesstimate.

And they only voted to give you $600 and tax breaks for three martini business lunches.

(11,821 posts)It still is an achievement - don't get me wrong. But in other years, such a strong showing could be cause enough for congratulations, and "get 'em next time" might be a fitting denouement.
But with the Senate hanging in the balance, well...

(22,898 posts)and if the people I am talking to are an indication of the vote, we really can pull this off.
My husband is much more pessimistic based on 538 but he isn't talking to these folks .
These voters are revved up! They want to talk about it. They are really stoked about the win in November and the fact that history will turn on a dime based on what they do.
You can find volunteer opportunites at the Warnock and Ossoff websites.
Or you can donate through the ActBlue fundraiser right here on DU
