He had his first shot a little over two weeks ago and he receives his second one in the middle of January.

He said the trial group is two-thirds vaccine and one-third placebo. He obviously doesn't know which group he is in but he seems to think he is in the vaccine group as his arm was sore for a day or two after the shot and he said his arm is never sore after a flu shot. Otherwise he has had no side effects. He's in his mid-40s and is very diligent about wearing a mask in public.

I read they already geared up their supply chain worldwide so that they can start immediate distribution. They plan to have 400 million doses for the US by early 2021 if approved.

The Johnson and Johnson COVID vaccine uses an approach that is very similar to AstraZeneca’s, so hopefully it will be just as effective. Unfortunately the J&J vaccine is lagging in approval as it’s still in Phase 3.

If we could get all 3 vaccines going ASAP (Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca), maybe there’s hope we’ll turn the corner soon???

And, as I understand it, we have capability to manufacture that type of vaccine here in Canada (lagging behind here because a previous Conservative government curtailed vaccine R&D).

This year is ending a lot better than it started!

“The first efficacy readout of AstraZeneca’s vaccine could come in the second half of January, Slaoui estimated, and the company could potentially file for emergency use later in February.“

I might be more worried about the difference between vaccine types - the messenger MRNA vs the Adenovirus and what that means - right now not sure

They got 60% effectiveness with 2 doses when they used 2 full doses. They got 90% effectiveness when they used two doses with first dose being a half dose (but that was done on a small group of people).

So, if nothing else, it will reduce the severity of your symptoms even if it’s not able to completely protect against COVID.

get that half-dose given by mistake issue sorted out (some of the phase 3 participants got only a 1/2 dose in error for the first shot and were paradoxically found to get better protection that those who received the correct, full dose)?
