Once humans started to deliberately grow plants and raise animals for food, it led to an uncontrolled population growth and devastation of the natural world. Forests were cut down, rivers altered to provide irrigation and pastures grazed to deserts.

The worst thing is that agriculture enabled cities - giant conglomerations of people sucking resources out of their hinterlands.
