Of course Bernie knows perhaps better than just about anyone else that Mitch McConnell doesn't care about the people in those 10 Kentucky counties (or any other Kentucky counties) until it it is time for them to pull the lever in the next election. Then they become useful to so that Mitch can keep profiting from the gravy train.

All I'm saying is that this is a different day and age. The same factual and statistical information that's available to ordinary citizens is also available to all politicians by way of a google search or a visit to Wikipedia, is ALSO available to politicians. In order to avoid embarrassment, the smartest politicians take advantage of the reference tools that are available to them.

(53,955 posts)Bernie was off yes (unless he has different data), but 13 of the 48 poorest counties as rated by median household income are in KY (6 of the poorest 26) The only state with more top 50 poorest counties than KY is Mississippi, with one more, 14.
Median income is a far better measurement, as per capita is often skewed upward by a handful of wealthy people, especially in small populations, like many of these counties.

Kentucky counties make up 10 of the 25 worst places to live in the US
Kentucky counties don't fare well on a recent list ranking the worst U.S. places to live.
https://eu.courier-journal.com/story/news/2019/03/13/kentucky-counties-dominate-worst-places-to-live-list/3151985002/
24/7 Wall Street recently ranked the top 25 worst counties to live in, based on three factors: poverty, the percentage of adults who have at least a bachelors degree, and average life expectancy at birth. Of the top 25 counties, 10 of them are in Kentucky. (And even worse: six of the top 10 are Kentucky counties.)
Here's the report from 24/7 Wall St:
Joblessness in the United States recently hit its lowest point since the 1960s; the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached an all-time high last year; and America is now home to at least twice as many billionaires as any other country.
In this context, it can be easy to overlook the parts of the country that have been left behind. In dozens of communities across the United States there is widespread poverty and failing local businesses. In these areas, the population is shrinking and the average life expectancy at birth more closely resembles that of countries like Indonesia and Egypt.

Kentucky is poor, no one doubts that. It's the 4th poorest state (looking at % below the poverty line)

(53,955 posts)There are multiple ways to measure wealth and poverty. Per capita is no more 'real' a measure than is median income, and when you are dealing with smaller populations, per capita is more easily skewed.
I already said either way between those two lists Sanders was off, but I also provided another source that was headlined as Kentucky as having 10 of the 25 worst counties to live in, which may be what he was referring to.
The main underlying points of causation for the valid attack on Moscow Mitch are becoming lost in a scrum of statistical/methodological pedantry, all do to whom the messenger was.

Anyone that thinks that Putin would just screw with the election just at the Presidential Election level is terribly Naive......
Interesting that the electronic voting machines used in Kentucky are the ones that were used in 2000 and 2004. That one fact answers what happened. The RepubliCON control of the Senate is the ONE thing that has brought all this misery upon the nation. Without the RepubliCONS controlling the Senate, Trump wouldn't have lasted one month after being installed as president. Period. And if they continue to be in control, we face four more years of obstruction, even worse than we have been witnessing.....
I have to say, that the things I had hoped for after Obama was elected, was that he would have the FEC, FBI, and DOJ launch a major investigation into the corruptible electronic voting.
The other is that he would wage war with the Pharmaceutical companies, including negotiating medicare drug prices.........
