Microsoft says Russian cyberattack exposed its source code

Microsoft said Thursday that a widespread cyberattack on U.S. government agencies and corporations believed to be pulled off by a Russian intelligence agency appears to have breached further into the company’s network than it previously thought.

Microsoft said in a blog post that its ongoing investigation into the attack “revealed attempted activities beyond just the presence of its malicious SolarWinds code in our environment.”

“We detected unusual activity with a small number of internal accounts, and upon review, we discovered one account had been used to view source code in a number of source code repositories,” the blog stated.

The company said the code had not been modified, nor had the attackers accessed emails.
