Of course he turned out to be a traitor. He was the first Jewish Senator who had not renounced his faith.

He was also the Confederacy's Secretary of State and War as well as Attorney General at different times (pretty impressive for four years).

and honestly I am unsure if he would or wouldn't be. The very first Jewish senator ever was from LA and served in Congress with Lincoln.
