It's pretty surreal coming into to work today and teaching a US government class

Besides the whole online video teaching thing, I can't "read" my kids for their reactions to the United States going through an actual coup attempt, (albeit one that--thankfully--wasn't planned out very good).

For the past four years I've had my lessons contradicted by reality. I've studied the words and deeds of the Founding generation--from Madison's warnings about the inevitability of demagogues to Washington's handling of the Whisky Rebellion--and applied them as best as situations permit.

But sadly, I let a "this motherfucker" slip as I walked my kids through the history of how Trump started this snowball.

January 21 can't get here fast enough. Imagine throwing a party so violent you can't even start the clean up for two weeks.
