Yesterday, through a haze of pain I staggered out of my dentist office after an emergency

extraction, and got home, knowing my meds were there to help me.

My dentist is a strong Democrat and we shared our outrage at what had happened in Washington. But my tooth had to go for that pain to stop.

I called my pharmacist about interaction of the dentist's prescription with my ongoing nerve pain meds. He carefully laid out how I could take both.

I wanted to cry. But I needed both painkillers. And in a way, I was glad I had them at that point.

It was one of the worst days of my life. But I had a caring dentist who was a strong political ally. His assistant, also a strong Dem and an immigrant, patted my arm gently.

It's time like these when you can get through pain, anger, great sorrow with others experiencing anguish.

Today I am physically better and healing emotionally, I am glad to say. The meds made me sleep and there is no pain today. Time to get back on track. I feel like I having been fighting devils.

But getting that first novacain shot on the inside of the mouth is really the worst of it.

I'm too old to care about what a baby I am with pain. I'm sure my dentist has seen worse!

It's great that your dentist and his assistant are Democrats. It would suck to have
to go to a right wing dentist. My dentist is from India and the office is owned by a
Vietnamese guy. I was very impressed with their operation, and my girlfriend works for
3 radio stations, so I did a promo ad. When I have my car radio on I get to hear myself
on air. I did it free and made friends with my dentists.

The excruciating pain of dental pathology can be so horrifying...

I myself have not only treated these conditions over many years, but have experienced horrific dental pain myself. I won’t bore you with the story but suffice it to say that the local anesthesia was ineffective and I had the periodontist remove the tooth essentially without anesthesia because it could not possibly have been worse than the pain I was enduring.

If a patient enters my office in the kind of pain you were describing, the first thing I do is give them anesthetic to take the pain away, Presuming that I know exactly which tooth is causing the problem. There’s no point in having a conversation with someone who feels as though their life is ebbing away.

Feel better!!

Knowing I was in gentle hands meant worlds for me! My pain was really a constant ache. I knew what would be coming. The swab before the needle, the necessary flinch with that needle jabbing me and then the slow diminuendo (if I may use a musical term). I know he feels how my whole body stiffens. But here's the thing: I trust the guy. So I give myself a little lecture: put on your big girl pants and stop sniveling!

You must have been with lots of lots of patients just like me, trying not to cry just because it hurts and it shocks your system.

Today I have no pain at all, just a tiny bit of soreness. I'm gonna be OK. Thanks for being here and offering your wisdom. I appreciate it

This may be too soon but I hope your extraction sets the stage for another extraction... from the White House this time.
