GOP Senators would be smart to impeach and convict

Why:
1. They hate him, just see their comments about him during the '15-16 nominating process.
2. With newly raised money, Trump will own the GOP for the next 4 years.
3. Conviction may be their only chance to rid themselves of this massive distraction, after 12 days this opportunity fades.
4. Currently, GOP Senators seen as lackeys , a conviction vote might hint at courage. Every GOP Sen. with POTUS aspirations might see this as cover to rid themselves of a dangerous rival.

But at the risk of loosing his base (for what that will even be worth in the future).

...with the controller and abuser. It is the reason many victims continue to support an abuser after the relationship is over.

Add in establishment types like McConnell who are pissed off at losing power -- and think it is his fault -- and maybe we could get there

The MAGAs are planning an armed militia march on DC for January 19. Do these Senators still want Trump in charge of "protecting" the nation's capital when that happens?

He lost the presidency for them, didn't regain the House, and lost the Senate majority.

They don't give a shit that he killed over 360,000 Americans due to his abysmal coronavirus response, or that he tanked the economy, or that he led a coup. They're mostly pissed that he lost their grip on DC.

I've been advocating a 2nd if for no other reason an active "Inquiry' to garner evidence.
In 12 days, getting subpoenas and bringing criminal charges gets easier anyway, so I'm wavering.
Strategically, not sure if Dems do better with or without Trump at the head of the GOP?

to GOP Sen. who want to rid their party of Trump, national security.

PELOSI: “This morning, I spoke to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley to discuss available precautions for preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike. “
