Saw that Richard Barnett, who sat in Pelosi's chair, could face up to ONE YEAR IN PRISON ...

"if" found guilty of all charges.

From AP:
Ken Kohl, the top deputy federal prosecutor in Washington, said Barnett was charged for entering Pelosi’s office, where he “left a note and removed some of the speaker’s mail.” Barnett, 60, faces three federal charges: knowingly entering or remaining in restricted grounds without authority; violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds; and theft of public property or records. If convicted, he faces up to a year in federal prison. https://apnews.com/article/donald-trump-arkansas-arrests-little-rock-theft-4837d9bae7988943f126f7a0f3782619

If the evidence proves he's guilty of other crimes, there is nothing to prevent AG Garland from charging him further.

Please tell me that is just the tip of the iceberg. No collusion or conspiracy? No blowback from violent collective actions.

There are probably many, many folks incarcerated more than this for petty drug crimes or resisting erroneous traffic stops.

They had enough to charge him with those crimes. The investigation is ongoing. The charges could be amended.

when I looked up the initial charges. Surely his case has to be more severe? There is also the possibility of more charges.

Those charges are the easiest to bring quickly so they could get him arrested, charged and into custody.

It's not uncommon for prosecutors to bring fairly minor charges in order to start the process and get the person in. There's no question that he illegally entered and remained on the property and engaged in disorderly conduct - the photos speak for themselves - so they could get him right away on those charges. But it's going to take more time and effort - questioning witnesses, reviewing videos, delving into social media, combing through forensic evidence, etc. - to pin down additional, more serious charges. But for the time being, they've got in him the system and they got him in fast.

They're doing this right.

These are charges that:
1. Could be immediately take him into custody.
2. Be efficiently prosecuted.
There could be another list of charges that could be prosecuted, but wouldn't have resulted in an instantaneous arrest warrant.
This way, they've already got him.

and FBI director Wray are going to have set up a special task force. This is a huge job to unspool all the threads, identify and catch all the co-conspirators.

I guess it's coming full circle in that DoJ was established to fight the KKK and other terrorists after Reconstruction.

And, while a few days ago I feared he might try it, now I don't think Trump will attempt to pardon any of these people. They've become toxic for him, so he'll leave them hanging, as he always does when people are no longer any use to him.

to initially arrest them on the simplest/most obvious charge, get them in custody and in the system, and later bring a superseding indictment once ALL of the evidence has been pored over. And that takes time.

For instance, they will want to go through his digital devices/communications. Who knows what they will uncover there?
