need to be dealt with the same way you'd respond to any hostile invader. There are times when even liberals need to be forceful, this would be one of them. Calls to have an Inauguration "in hiding" to safeguard participants are simply WRONG.

A rag tag bunch similar to the 1/6 crew going up against 6,500 Ntl guard, SS, local and state police from surrounding states. Its a no brainer...oh I forgot they dont use their brains

(12,533 posts)This isn't Capitol Police guarding Biden and Harris, this is the Secret Service, along with about 10,000 heavily armed National Guard, along with who knows how many more LEA special units.
The Secret Service are not to be fucked with, they are perhaps the best trained LEA in the world and they aren't known for their sense of humor.

(999 posts)But they have a tendency to blame everyone else but themselves, they will likely further hate the American government and some will likely do terrorist acts.

(12,533 posts)hopefully not, but I'm not holding my breath.
Here's my take on these traitors, just how many of these traitors will have the balls to go toe to toe with heavily armed, well equipped and well trained National Guard members, most of which have combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, along with all the specialized police units?
How many are going to actually fight when the shooting starts and their "comrades" start dropping like sacks of shit thrown from a 20 story bldg?
How many have any actual combat experience?
It's a whole lot different dressing up and playing soldier in the woods as compared to trained troops firing at you.
There will be a hard core of Pissolini supporters who might try to take on these forces, but they will end up as dead Pissolini supporters.
Also, if anyone is worried about bomb laden drones, there will more than likely be an EA-18 Growler in the air over DC jamming any specific signals, along with probably a couple of Predator drones armed with Hellfire missiles.
And, to top it off, there will be an expanded no fly zone and any aircraft attempting to penetrate the zone will quickly have a Sidewinder AAM up their ass.

(7,440 posts)And the zip ties weren't by chance just hanging around the Capitol Building. They were intentionally brought in to bag a few members of Congress, try them quickly and hang them. But perhaps a simple execution by bullet would also serve its intended purpose.
that is very chilling, this has got to end. White supremacist racists love their white supremacists so called faked pResident.

(3,131 posts)But I disagree.
For sure, go after any armed or violent protestors. If I was in the area I would go masked and risk it after this week.
Absolutely dont do it in hiding. Do it fully televised with pictures of the crowd cheering. Big screens so people can see the singers, speakers, etc. All of the spectacle. Biden and Harris dont need to be together on a public stage.
If the need for a public display is great enough, give a speech in between to give distance in time. Pelosi cannot be there.
There are ways to better guarantee the transition.
We dont have to agree on this.

(650 posts)These people are known to be armed with plenty of hate and armed to the teeth with guns and now apparently bombs. Our military should be on high alert and prepared to shoot anyone who doesn't lay down their weapons during this insurrection.
But We the People need to protect our incoming President, VP, and other high ranking officials by holding the Inauguration in a secret location with live video showing and recording the event. We have the technology to do this today and SHOULD do this.
I don't consider it an act of some sort of macho bravery for them to take the risk of appearing publicly for the Inauguration Swearing in Ceremony.

You know how I'd like to see them show courage? By prosecuting every damn one of them. And whatever they feel like doing to guarantee that they are alive to do that is fine by me.

"Adolf Hitler, once the demi-god of the reactionary extremists, was released on parole from imprisonment at Fortress Landsberg, Bavaria, today and immediately left in an auto for Munich. He looked a much sadder and wiser man today than last Spring, when he with Ludendorff and other radical extremists, appeared before a Munich court charged with conspiracy to overthrow the government.
His behavior during imprisonment convinced authorities that, like his political organization, known as the Volkischer, was no longer to be feared. It is believed he will retire to private life in Austria, the country of his birth."

(51,087 posts)Wednesday was terrible of course and the people are f*n loonies.
But these guys/gals are untrained. They buy tactical gear off of Amazon and have non-military grade weapons. If they think they can take on a real squad of the armed forces they are nuts. If they try to actually 'attack' something the real armed forces would wipe them out.
I saw a bunch of Kentucky so called 'militia men' at the Kentucky capital, it was a bunch of fat guys in camo that couldn't run 30 feet. Put them up against trained Marines and let's see who wins.

(4,676 posts)event with incredible planning and security. But I am worried about domestic terrorism around the country, state capitols, bombs in random places, etc., not just the 20th. Their mass-gathering communication has been disrupted, but smaller cells can happen all over the place.

(2,574 posts)while Congress, and the VP, were certifying Electoral College results. The fascist domestic terrorists were intent on kidnapping or murdering the Vice President and members of Congress. They were chanting "Hang Mike Pence!" Hang Mike Pence! in an orgy of unhinged zombie bloodlust.
The Capitol building should have been surrounded in heavily armed armed cops in body armor, three deep. The failure to adequately protect Congress was a feature, not a bug, and the feature was built in by fascists, or a fascist, loyal only to Trump. This was not a failure of intelligence. Most everyone here at DU knew that the Capitol should be heavily guarded, and we thought it would be, as a matter of simple common sense.
And we should trust the cops to protect Joe and Kamala, exactly why? Gosh, what could go wrong?
Law enforcement and the military must be purged of everyone who is loyal only to Trump, and disloyal to the Constitution and the United States, before I'll trust the cops and the military to protect anyone who isn't a loyal Trump supporter.
It only takes one deranged traitor. Better safe, than sorry.

(2,580 posts)"Biden say's he's "not afraid" to take oath of office outside despite security concerns
From CNN's Sarah Mucha and Paul LeBlanc
"No, I'm not afraid of taking the oath outside," he said, adding that it's "critically important' that there be a "real, serious focus" on holding those folks "who engaged in sedition and threatened people's lives" accountable.
Asked by the pooler if he fears impeachment could delay consideration of the stimulus bill, Biden said hes talking to senators about whether they could still consider his Cabinet nominees and stimulus proposals, per the pooler.
He said he has not heard back from the parliamentarian yet.
Some background: Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser on Sunday sent a letter to President Trump asking for an emergency declaration in order to get additional funding for Biden's inauguration as safety concerns mount following the US Capitol breach.
Bowser's letter reflects the widespread safety concerns felt in the nation's capital and across the country in the wake of the violence at the US Capitol complex that left five dead, including an officer with the US Capitol Police.
Experts now warn that the calls for violence have only intensified ahead of Inauguration Day, when Biden will be sworn in as commander in chief."
