Warnock and Ossoff should be sworn by Jan 23. (Certification deadline is 1/22.)
I doubt the Senate trial will get going until they are sworn and Dem majority leader is selected and new rules for running things are in place.
With removal from office off the table, it's my understanding that the Senate could impose the following consequences if they vote to convict:
Loss of benefits under the Former Presidents Act (pension, staff and office expenses, medical care or health insurance, and Secret Service protection)
Disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States. (i.e., couldn't run again)
Is the above correct? Is any other punishment allowed?

(15,279 posts)...then the time pressure is off anyway. A couple of more days to get Warnock and Ossoff seated would be fine with me.
I just dearly hope SOMETHING is done without waiting that long. And then impeachment, no matter if Trump has been kicked out of office early or not.

(9,205 posts)I dont think it reads that way, but thats how the Senate has always done it.
. . .if enough Senators relinquish the dark side enough to convict, I would certainly hope enough would vote to disqualify him!
