I am getting weird popup ads on DU, I never got before

Ads look very sketchy. Takes over my whole phone screen. Not happening on other sites.

Been happening for a few days now

1. It may be happening since you don't have a star. Those eliminate the ads.

Ad Block also works, I hear.

They don't seem like legit ads. They say things like "win a free phone"

6. I get those on my cell phone because I don't have ad blocker

They are pretty bad. I have to close my browser. The seem like adware, malware. I fills up the entire screen like a gambling game of some sort. I have to close the browser.

you've won a prize, or you're the billionth visitor. not too innocuous, just hit the back button. Sound familiar??

It seems more like a trojan horse or a virus than a legit ad.

I haven't seen one in a couple days. so I can't verify that. I had something on my last phone for a while, much more obnoxious, had to stop and restart Chrome to temporarily get rid of it. I remember reading it may have been caused by a recent download, but this time, no download.... so really no clue of origin now....
