(7,541 posts)The Vice President can temporarily discharge the powers of President, but he doesn't gain the title of President by invoking the 25th amendment. The Vice President can permanently discharge those powers during the remainder of the Presidents term - but still does not gain the title - if the President does not object or by a 2/3 vote of both houses of Congress if the President does object. The 25th does not remove the President from office.

(10,234 posts)Pence will likely be forgotten when Trump moves on to his next target. Let him have the six months the law calls for: if he's still getting threats from Trumpers let Pence hire some security: surely he's got a pile of savings from the tax cuts the Republicans rammed through. Or Betsy could see a yacht or two and cover his expenses.

(50,339 posts)I keep imagining Pence making that phone call to Biden.
After all Pence's ultimate in ass kissing to the GOP, the Dems will provide safe harbor for him.
Maybe it will make Pence think about doing the right thing?

(18,486 posts)We don't need lynch mobs going after former government officials, regardless whether we agree with their politics. We need to protect them. That's who we are as a nation and I refuse to turn into them.

Biden will need to provide him with what ever security is necessary. He shouldn't be murdered by right-wing thugs for being Trumps sidekick.
