Representative or Senator [name]:
I saw in the newspaper and online that you were one of the House Members (Senators) who voted to block counting electoral college votes on January 6, 2021, despite a violent attempted takeover of the Capitol by a mob. I find that to be a reprehensible action on your part. No evidence exists that any substantial election irregularities occurred in any state. Multiple lawsuits brought by the Trump campaign were rejected by federal and state courts regarding such irregularities. Even federal judges appointed by President Trump rejected those suits for lack of evidence or other reasons.
It is impossible for me to find any justification, then, for your vote to block tallying of those electoral votes, since all were certified by officials in those stages. I can only think that you acted purely on political grounds, rather than performing your constitutional responsibility to simply tally and accept certified electoral college votes.
I am not a member of your political party. [(optional)I do not live in your state or district.] However, I am an active worker in elections and campaigns. I will be sure to focus my efforts on defeating you in 2022 or when you must run for reelection. I will make sure that voters know what you did on January 6, 2021, and how you ignored your constitutional responsibilities. For whatever reason you decided to attempt to disenfranchise voters, you will face the consequences of your misplaced loyalty to Donald J. Trump when you next run for office.
You have never heard of me. You do not know me. However, I will make sure to inform voters of who you are and what you did. You can count on that.
As a paraphrase of what William Congreve quipped back in 1693: "Act in haste; Repent at leisure."

(146,331 posts)I am making a suggestion. You can take it or leave it. It didn't require a reply. Communicating with legislators is part of our rights and responsibilities. If we do nothing, nothing is done.

(16,616 posts)I used it twice during the August - October period, and when I last tried to send him an email I got an ominous message, something like: Your email was rejected as a possible national security threat.
I didn't attempt to write to him again. I've never received a message like that before writing to any American politician.

"National security threat?"

(508 posts)But I think we need to do more.
We need to systematically separate these Representatives and Senators from their campaign finance sources, to the extent that we legally can.

(146,331 posts)However, it is also important to tell legislators what we think.
What I wrote is just a sample of how to do that. I will be sending that to legislators in my state who did that.
Will they see it? I don't know, but I will most certainly send it.
I wonder just what you will be able to do to deny your legislators those things. Are you a powerful person? If not, just communicate with them. Do something. Doing nothing accomplishes nothing.

(508 posts)I meant no criticism or disrespect, MineralMan.
I have written a half-dozen letters myself, and I will send more.
I am just thinking:
The 147 Reps and 7 Senators who voted to throw Electoral Votes get their campaign money from somewhere.
Can we find out where that is?
Can we influence their financial backers as well?
I think that's also worth doing.

(16,616 posts)I know a lot of people say it's hopeless or not worth doing, but I can't help myself.
I do write to U.S. politicians, again and again.
I'd love to send this to my deplorable representative, Paul Gosar. I'm so tired I'm not feeling very creative this morning. Is it okay if I use this as a template?
Thanks for all you contribute here (especially at a time when you have so much going on--which I'm sorry about).
