Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) won’t reconvene the Senate early to accept an article of impeachment, ensuring a trial won’t take place until after President Trump leaves office, the Wall Street Journal reports.

His claim he needs unanimous consent to bring the senate back. The argument is that the 2004 legislation means he doesn't. However, if he doesn't have unanimous consent he doesn't have party cover. Mitch doesn't do anything without his butt covered.

It's just easier to have the vote when Schumer takes over in that case. They're also more likely to have 67 votes after Trump leaves. You also wonder if Mitch thinks Pence would pardon Trump...

If he's no longer president and you convict...what is the remediation? You can't remove him from office. You prevent him from being eligible to run again? I say let him. And let the Republicans have to deal with it.
