kamalaharris Outside of my mother, there are two women who were central to my childhood and making me into the person I am today: my neighbor Mrs. Shelton and my first grade teacher Mrs. Wilson.
Mrs. Shelton was a warm and eloquent woman, originally from Louisiana. She and her husband, Arthur, owned and ran a nursery school. When our mother worked late, it was Mrs. Sheltons home where my sister, Maya, and I would go after school. Her house was like an extension of our own household, and Mrs. Shelton became a second mother to us.
She was one of the smartest people Ive ever known, and she lived by the belief that you always lend a hand to those in needsomething Mrs. Shelton instilled in me. Even after I started working in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, I would return to Mrs. Shelton's kitchen, where I always knew I would receive a warm hug and delicious food.
Mrs. Wilson was my first grade teacher at Thousand Oaks Elementary School in Berkeley, California. She instilled in me a sense of hope and courage during the formative years of my life and believed in me every step of the way. From the lessons she taught to the confidence she helped me find, Im forever grateful.
Many years after I finished the first grade, I walked up on stage to receive my law school diploma and when I looked out into the audience, I saw Mrs. Francis Wilson smiling back at me. She was there to cheer me on just as she always had. I carry her lessons with me to this day.

Kamala is good and caring person. As Hillary's book title said, "It takes a village".

(114,431 posts)1. Lovely tribute. I don't know if anyone saw Lion King 2019 tour, but
the actress who starred as young Nala looks a lot like young Kamala.
Ill call it right now, should the movie be made. Brilyn Johnston.
