One consequence of the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan was the Bush-era military, in a desperate attempts to hit recruiting targets, turning a blind eye to white nationalism & right wing extremism. Some of what we're seeing today is a direct consequence of that

things are worse now than when star and bar Confederates whooped in my AO-company, openly, in Vietnam. And Black Power-People Power-aware military was a counterbalance in that reality then and so it seems it continues today in the military and society in general. My active experience with the military started at birth more than 50 years past in a lifer's family. My officer father and his cronies would talk about racism then present. Tuskeegee Airmen, my father's 761st Tank Battalion(Black Panther's) days of WW2. And yeah I knew about them then. The military has experienced dissension before among the ranks and races. And no draconian clean sweep or as clean a sweep as possible will make ideological and racial/cultural differences go away. Just like racism ain't ever going away. January 6th put this truth in sharp relief and gives our Joint Chiefs a new starting point in instilling the positives and strengths of diversity in our military personnel. And believe me, with the first shot fired or at the scream of rockets incoming, everyone is commended to the same possible fate. That's where discipline and unit cohesion-unity is tested

So cleaning out domestic terrorists and other non-loyal "undesirables" in our military and police forces have now shown itself as a priority, at this time, in the development and growth of our young democracy and its military. Young being relative of course. This attack by RW fascist forces I hope will open eyes and will help in firming up our ground force military readiness posture and start mitigating racially charged extra-judicial killings of unarmed and in a majority of cases, innocent POC or allies.

The Bush-Cheney rush to depose Saddam and needed justified ground forces for a righteous fight in Afghanistan made our numbers important against the foreign terrorist threat and their training camps.
By extension, Bush-Cheney ARE responsible for recruiters looking at police records, juvenile schooling records and/or associations. All readily available with just a cursory examination and then looking the other way when signing them up even with problematic juvenile jail and/or prison records of older 'volunteers'. In the beginning, Rumsfeld was pressured no doubt, and it's not a viable excuse, to needlessly ignore the readiness or lack of with our troops at that time and put our troops in harm's way. That Republican administration put many of our troops in harm's way needlessly and that cannot ever be forgiven by any red-blooded vet. Convoys of soft skins etc. Despicable.

Today I am glad to see overall, the military remains loyal to the Constitution and to loyal American citizens who believe in that Constitution and not a political ideology or man.
