Pressure on Ted Cruz Grows as Third Texas Newspaper Calls for Him to Resign

The El Paso Times became the latest Texas newspaper to call for Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) to step down from the Senate at the weekend over his objections to the president election results, and his role in the "Stop the Steal" campaign.

Releasing an op-ed on Saturday, the newspaper's editorial board said Cruz had to be "held accountable" for his actions ahead of the Capitol riots on January 6, and argued that his contesting of the election contributed to an "insurrection" at the Capitol.

The Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News delivered similarly strong verdicts on the senator in the wake of the Capitol riots earlier this month, with both calling for the Republican to leave the upper chamber.

In its op-ed published Saturday, the Times' editorial board said: "Cruz shouldn't have ignored those who believe the election was rigged. But to borrow from the title one of his books, now was 'A Time for Truth.' And Cruz knew the Stop the Steal campaign was a fraud.

I don’t know who owns them or runs the editorial board but they are more conservative than the town they serve. Contrast that to the San Antonio Express News, which has become considerably more liberal since the Obama years.

but they are using the Web software previously used by Gannett. Almost all of the GateHouse newspapers are using the Gannett software.

GateHouse is more conservative than Gannett used to be.

The San Antonio Express and Houston Chronicle are owned by Hearst. The El Paso Times is owned by GateHouse.

The Dallas Morning News is owned by Belo and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram is owned by McClatchy.

I do hope their staff follows through and desert them en masse--and colleagues shun them. But even then I suspect they will remain to siphon every cent of taxpayer money.

ignore all the calls to do the right thing, continue to ride out the news cycle, and eventually, something else big enough will happen to make this look like a speck in the rear-view mirror.

An impending Federal indictment is pressure, and that‘s not on the menu yet.

Cruz isn‘t going anywhere, and unlike Trump, he couldn‘t care less if he encounters adoring crowds wherever he goes. A true Republican, he cares only about money and power. He is not in the least concerned what people think about how he obtains them.
