Rep. John Katko-R: US Capitol attack was 'much worse than people realized'
https://www.syracuse.com/politics/2021/01/rep-john-katko-us-capitol-attack-was-much-worse-than-people-realized.html
Washington – Rep. John Katko says he has received intelligence briefings that suggest the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol was more than a spontaneous attack by an angry mob. Katko, the top Republican on the House Homeland Security Committee, said the briefings raised serious questions about how much planning went into the attack and the security lapses that allowed rioters to reach the House and Senate chambers. Snip “There are a lot of unanswered questions here, from possible security lapses to who was involved and when they were involved,” Katko said. “We need to have a full stem to stern look back on this to see what happened, how it happened, the sequence of events, who contributed to it, and how we make sure it never happens again." 4. For sure!
We need 2 parties:
Moderate dems; & Progressive Dems. Repukes have always demonstrated a gross disdain for democratic ideals. Not sure why their "party" is not deemed as terrorist org., to be honest. It is beyond me how any sane person could remain aligned with a "party" who wants to censure even private citizens for stating factual truths. Cindy McCain, for example. I've not heard any right-wing outrage or anything from McCain or Cheney regarding these threats to besmirch their reputations, have you? ![]() |

32. Go higher up on that food chain
Remember that trump did not go into the bunker during an armed insurrection. In addition to the Secret Service not forcing him to go. The WH is less than 2 miles from the Capitol, by foot.

5. Hopefully. I've always suspected that the gang of 8 and TPTB shield us and the world from
details that undermine our high opinion of ourselves as an invulnerable 'beacon of democracy'. I think there are aspects of the 2016 election, Russia, corporate control of DC, even some terrorist attacks that TPTB think wouldn't be helpful if known.

39. I mean, wasn't the Benghazi main beef all about the delay in sending rescue forces from
ITALY and other countries to Libya to stop a terror attack in progress? The Army sat on a request to send National Guard troops across fucking TOWN to put down a violent mob inside the Capitol. Need WAY more investigation into this.

7. That was definitely more than just an "angry mob" of Trumpists...
The FBI needs to dig into this and ferret it out. Intel agencies need to be deeply involved and Congressional hearings are a must.
A Special Council would be advisable too. |

15. There's no need for a Special Council, there's no conflict of interest with this administration.
Regular line DOJ prosecutors are appropriate. But we definitely need to investigate the shit out of this, with tons of hearings so that the American people know what happened.

22. Katko's also stunned tRump commuted the sentence of drug kingpin who orchestrated the 1990 murder of
Syracuse police officer Wallie Howard, Jr. I wonder what the "Thin Blue Line" loving crowd (i.e., MAGATs) in Onondaga County think about that? Oh, wait! Officer Howard was black. Oops! Major conflict with their hatred of BLM movement.

More: Katko (R-Camillus), a former federal prosecutor and colleague of Duncan at the time, said that Davidson was responsible for a heinous crime. |

30. I hope no one is overly surprised by this.
A large number - probably a majority - consider themselves either military, or paramilitary. That kind of person plans, and there were aspects of the day that seemed pretty coordinated.
That being said, it's a damned good thing that these people don't do this "for real" (in the ACTUAL military), because they can't plan a bar fight. |
