She got a message while on air that McConnell wants to put off the trial to a later date..... Why the hell does he have any say on this? Isn't that now up to Schumer???😠

(15,100 posts)And Mitch is pushing every limit, as he always has.
But Mitch has no choice in the matter. By law, the Senate has to begin the trial when Madam Speaker sends the Articles of Impeachment over.

(913 posts)So no big deal at the moment. What I want is for Dems to send the impeachment to a committee so they can do an investigation while the main Senate does its business.

(35,699 posts)Committees can be involved in impeachment in the House but there is no provision for that in the Senate.

(17,538 posts)I would tell Mc, either we get this done here and very soon, or we are just going to have the AG look at Trump and all of his support systems within the House and Senate, and get a real trial going. We have two years of power, it is time for us to be the ones pushing the Republicans around for a change. Sooner or later they will one something for their big donors and we may have to tell them, "Oh, I think we need to put that off for a while." Power is not worth a damn if it is not used.
If we force a quick trial, the Republicans will be forced to make a stand, either supporting sedition or voting to convict. If they want to acquit Trump, so be it, but make them vote while the memories of 1/6 are fresh.

(17,004 posts)I get the feeling he is hell bent to piss Schumer off. Probably not a wise move.

I'm not sure this is such a bad thing.
It keeps the media focus and congress focus on what Biden is doing - which I think is good for Biden.

But good to get Mitch's take on it as well.
We'll get back to you, Mitch.

(82,849 posts)You had a week to start the impeachment trial, but no, you couldn't be bothered to decide whether the President of the United States was guilty of incitement to insurrection. Just like back in February, you couldn't be bothered to listen to any witnesses or consider any evidence when Trump was impeached the first time.
What's your incentive for the Democrats to listen to you and do what you want? You have an unbroken record of fecklessness in the Senate, and nobody with two working brain cells should trust you.
