(11,563 posts)Our grands (all step-grands to me, although I'd be proud to call them my own) are absolutely stellar, and 5 of the 6 of them are girls.
This has been a real emotional journey for the family/families. Today is a peak, for sure.
Thanks

(15,540 posts)Just beautiful. I have a five-year old granddaughter and I can't help but think how far we have come as females since I was that age. Many, many hard-fought battles to get here and many more to come, but this gives me hope.

(11,862 posts)my thought was not women should make as much, but that they should have discounts on food and rent equal to the difference.
Now times have changed, but women STILL make less than men in equal jobs, but their prospects are much better.
P.S. Now in my 70's, and never thought I'd make it this far!

(1,850 posts)Tears of joy, tears of resilience;
tears for years of struggling, waiting, watching, hoping, persisting.
I remember Shirley Chisholm. I was 11 when she ran for president.
I don't remember thinking it was remarkable, but I do remember feeling empowered.
A woman could run for president! Women could do anything.
Almost 50 years later, we've proved we can do anything!
We've come such a long way.
Onward and upward!

(7,263 posts)Yes, systemic misogyny, just as powerful and evil as systemic racism, but never really mentioned.
Tears are there, but so is the outrage that we have to even acknowledge videos like this.
