House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday shot down the notion that impeaching President Donald Trump could alienate Republicans and undercut the message of unity that the new Biden administration is advocating.

"I'm not worried about that," Pelosi said at a news conference when she was asked about the impeachment proceedings. "The fact is the president of the United States committed an act of incitement of insurrection. I don't think it's very unifying to say, 'Oh, let's just forget it and move on.' That's not how you unify."

Pelosi went on to say of Trump: "Just because he's now gone - thank God - you don't get to say to a president, 'Do whatever you want in the last months of your administration. You're going to get a "get out of jail" card free because people think we should make nice-nice and forget that people died here on January 6.'"

The California Democrat was referring to the attempted coup at the Capitol that was led by Trump supporters, egged on by Trump as part of his crusade to stop the peaceful transfer of power. The siege left five people dead, including a Capitol Police officer whom Trump supporters beat with a fire extinguisher.

I had to explain to my children, that have grown up hiding under desks in dark rooms, because live school shooters are the norm, that the Insurrection was averted by some police officers that had to not only deal with their own turning their back on our Country, but a bunch of delusional domestic terrorists wanting to kill Heads of State, for "That Thing".

Jeez, it's been more than two weeks since Republicans tried to overthrow the government by force, and only a half dozen people died. Most of the mess had been cleaned up. Republicans and Fox are over it; what's the matter with all the rest of you? Don't you know how bad this makes Republicans look, and how difficult it is to find a "both sides"? Republicans have tried to make Jill Biden's advanced degree an issue, and that didn't work. Rand Paul tried to make veiled references to bigotry and white supremacy into something, and he wound up just looking foolish. Ted Cruz even tried to turn the Paris Climate Accords into something and that really mean girl from New York flattened him in less than 140 characters. No fair!

10. Republicans like to dumb things down so the choices appear simple to make to their voters.

Make them play this by grown-up rules and articulate language. This was a serious and complex event put on by the losing candidate AND his enablers. They planned this well in advance and some of those who now refuse to vote on it had a hand in making it happen.

They helped set the stage. Now they must own the results. Do not let this be portrayed as another he said-she said argument between Liberal Dems and Conservative GOPers. This needs a full and accurate airing with adult testimony, commentary, and adult consequences. Make them say the big words out loud and on the record, under oath if necessary. Let the whole world see them try to dance away from reality and responsibility. Let the evidence be shown clearly and plainly. Make them as uncomfortable as possible with the truth the helped write and most definitely NAME the NAMES of the victims and the guilty.

This needs to cost them NOW while people are paying attention and can remember.
