I meant ASAP when I said it. Just made a number of calls and have been informed Capitol Police have apologized to the Guardsmen and they will be allowed back into the complex tonight. Ill keep checking to make sure they are.

(83,785 posts)I can't wait to see who was responsible for this order and see their ass fired. It is winter and is cold and whoever ordered this is inhumane.

(2,584 posts)All the Democrats need to speak up and say this was wrong because the republicans are going
to blame it on the Democrats since they now the majority party in both parts of the capital.
Democrats need to be out in front of this first.

(8,835 posts)Let the U.S. Gov't put them up in decent hotels and give them free meals.
These Men and Women are the last stand for protecting our citizens and the Democracy.......
Some one(s) are still striving towards screwing up the entire system. The dems need to find out who these traitors are and prosecute them.
And no more hand slapping and some community service. And no minimum sentences at Camp Cupcake.
This insurrection agains't the US Gov't is nothing less than Treason.
These people should have the same exact treatment as the Rosenbergs did in the early 50's

(8,053 posts)The seditionists had been telling their minions to lay low for a couple of days before they attack. Maybe this was a start...getting rid of the national guard.

(3,019 posts)I expect for many of the Guard, this is not their first rodeo. And, thanks to god, so far, there have been no bullets to dodge or tough calls to make. Not to say there is no stress, no worry and that they are away from home. The saying "keep your head on a swivel" comes exactly from these situations where knowing who the enemy is, REALLY, is sometimes impossible. All that said, I remember many nights when the thought of being 1) dry 2) relatively safe 3) not having to deal with creepy crawlies and other critters and 4) being sort of warm was like a vacation in Hawaii for civilians, for us. Did we sleep on hard ground with maybe nothing but our clothes to keep us warm and our poncho to keep us dry (kind of) and thankful we might actually be able to get a full nights sleep and feel blessed for it? Damn right, many nights! And do I wish I could say "I slept on the marble floor of the Capitol" and be damn proud I did so, for the cause of democracy and the Constitution? Damn right!!!!
So, please Tammy, do what you can. And Capitol Police...please, jeez, have some perspective and cut us all a break! And thanks to all that have now, maybe, some small understanding of what it takes to take that oath, live it for for years, and do what needs to be done, under whatever conditions that may bring. Millions have done this now, in increments of hundreds and thousands, day in and day out, for America, the Union, the Constitution, for hundreds of years. And I think will do so far into the future.
And just as one vet, one vote-- next time, put them up in the f**king Ritz Carleton and give them an open bar. If they personally don't deserve it, in aggregate of the their legacy, it's still an underpayment.

(3,019 posts)I think many there will be honored to say just that..."I was THERE...on THAT day". And if you think of our history...that is QUITE SOMETHING!

(2,008 posts)The National Guard is called in in the first place because the Capitol Police failed so utterly on January 6, so their mere presence is probably salt in the wound for the Capitol Police. For them to be major asshats about this is just bringing further embarrassment upon their department.
Maybe it's a "I'm already fired once they investigate January 6, so I might as well salt the earth on my way out" situation from someone high up in Capitol Police.

(2,218 posts)There were brave individuals that made smart decisions during the terrorist insurrection. The leadership was clearly not doing that.
Let's put the brave ones that could think on their feet in charge immediately. I wouldn't be surprised it there were kompromat on the current leaders of the Capitol Police.

(4,436 posts)This morning about 100 Guard soldiers reported Covid symptoms, all inside the Capitol. Someone (nobody seems to know exactly who) ordered them to vacate because they suddenly realized that Covid could be a major issue quickly with everyone packed inside.
Thats all I have heard - from friends serving in the Guard now on the ground there.

(9,070 posts)There are some soldiers that are taking it in stride, some are not. They have been doing this for days or more and a spokesperson or soldier said that it was difficult to coordinate that many troops.
There are a few contradictions in the articles I've seen like thousands of soldiers vs hundreds, they've been resting in the garages for a while vs just today and
there is a covid issue vs there isn't one.
Not sure that this is some nefarious thing, it may just be a poorly communicated issue in the chaos of the transition and the novelty of having to deal with 25k troops.
