It took 4 long years. But here we are. Optimism is in vogue. #bidenHarris

2017 Women's March
Jan 21, 2017 – Jan 22, 2017
The Women's March was a worldwide protest on January 21, 2017, the day after the inauguration of President Donald Trump. It was prompted by the fact that several of Trump's statements were considered by many a anti-women or otherwise offensive to women. It was the largest single-day protest in U.S. history. 1. And maybe, we should still march! Not against someone...but for someone..something!

I think the problem with our American democracy lately is, too often, we are passive. We should have passionately opposed Trump, and many of us did. But we should just as passionately, and publicly, support Biden and Kamala and their policies. I mean in the street, passionately. Passivity is equated to weakness and then the people under rocks with crazy ideas come out and then 1/6/21 happens and many are surprised. The rock dwellers will always be there. And only when those of us in the light make ourselves more visible and vocal and positive will we keep the demons at bay. We can blame the rock dwellers rightfully, but we are too to blame when we do not shout and stand up. Democracy is NOT a spectator sport!

2. No, we need to encourage people to just vote regularly. Even if they don't feel passionate

...leave doubt about a mandate. I am glad to see Biden making a strong start, outing Trumpists in agencies, canceling Trumpian exec orders. But to keep a momentum, I don't think just waiting until the 2022 election is enough. To be sure we want to expand our majority in both houses of Congress, but there is much to accomplish before then and there will be serious Rep resistance. And we Dems can't even be sure all of our own will vote lockstep. Some Dem House members chart their own course as does Sen. Manchin of WV so on some issues we may still not carry the day.

My theory on why marching is important is this. I personally can't vote out Cruz and Hawley and Graham, but I think when there are a lot of people in the street, across the country, even if we are not in their district or state, it applies a general kind of pressure that they cannot fully ignore. It changes the dialog from he said/she said in the halls of the Capitol and on the evening news to "The People say...". That changes the dynamic, I think. Maybe not a lot, but maybe enough. And if by chance the sentiment and the action moves into their home jurisdictions, then we really have something. Texas, Florida and other states are only marginally red and putting them in play for more pick-ups of House and Senate seats in 2022 is critical for not only maintaining the majority in Congress but strengthening it.

critical of Biden at this time. I know they have lots on their agenda and we need to give them time. Errors will be made but Biden-Harris are good people and corrections will be made also.

I saved a copy of the Los Angeles Times from that day. Hard to believe it’s four years already. I’ve got great pictures, great videos and even greater memories of that day.

Well done, everyone!

We marched with chants, hugs and joy. We were on the right side and we knew it. It was a profound experience for everyone who participated, myself included. No guns, no violence. Just our voices raised in unison.

A beautiful day.

I was also an eyewitness to the meager crowd on inauguration Day. Trump's Lies started on Day 1.

There were caravans of women on their way to DC with Bumper stickers and posters...all wearing pink hats...it had a very festive feel...we were glad to begin stopping DJT. We waved at each other and honked horns...

Saved a pic I took that said Make America Kind Again, and it was my background for 4 years on Facebook. I changed it the day Joe took over with a pic of two hands holding sunshine and it says Sometimes miracles are just good people with kind hearts.

Thats how I see Joe, he is my miracle right now.

I feel overwhelmed by over 5 constant years of Trump that started when he campaigned and took over Twitter and the news. Now I feel like I felt after the divorce I got decades ago from my first husband who was abusive. It took time to heal and I think millions of people feel like me.
