Using the scientific publication "Sizing Ocean Giants" as a reference, and with @SenSanders height reported as 6 feet tall, we can assume that each Bernie is approximately 1 meter. This allows us to measure ocean creatures in units Bernie... 🐡




The largest deep-sea hydrothermal vent tubeworms are approximately THREE BERNIES tall.


Even though they start life no bigger than a small seed, the giant ocean sunfish (Mola mola) can eventually grow to 3.3 Bernies long!


Giant ocean isopods (aka ocean rolly pollies) can reach up to 1/2 a Bernie. Talk about a pillbug!


Here is a Bernie for scale among the "Forest of the Weird," a reef of deep-sea carnivorous sponges.


This giant deep-sea jelly, know as a siphonophore, is roughly THIRTY BERNIES long!!
