Out-Of-Touch Susan Collins Says She Doesn't See The Need For More COVID Relief

Out-Of-Touch Susan Collins Says She Doesn’t See The Need For More COVID Relief

Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) hinted on Thursday that she would oppose President Joe Biden’s COVID rescue package, a proposal that provides relief to millions of struggling Americans in the middle of an increasingly deadly pandemic.

“It’s hard for me to see when we just passed $900 billion of assistance why we would have a package that big,” Sen. Collins said, laying the groundwork for her eventual opposition if it comes to the Senate.

“I’m not seeing it right now, but again I’m happy to listen,” she added.

Among other important elements of the plan, Biden’s package would give most Americans $1,400 in direct stimulus payments, raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour, expand unemployment benefits, and provide aid for small businesses.

America is in crisis and Susan Collins is shrugging her shoulders

Joe Biden hasn’t even been in the White House for more than two days, and he has already taken a number of actions to tackle the COVID crisis that Donald Trump left on his desk.

But this is a public health and economic crisis that can’t be solved through executive actions alone. Congress must step up to the plate and pass meaningful legislation not only to stop the bleeding, but to help the economy build back better and stronger than it was before the pandemic.

Economists agree that Biden’s rescue plan would do just that.

Susan Collins was happy to cast a vote for Donald Trump’s $2 trillion tax cut for the wealthiest individuals and corporations, but when it comes to helping regular Americans survive in the midst of multiple crises, she’s missing in action.

Collins was all over the state meeting people, Gideon was not. I believe that the strategy that we took of avoiding going out among voters hurt us in a lot of races. I am really glad that Joe and his campaign heads came up with the concept of car rallies in October of last year, and that Abrams and people in Georgia, along with Democrats in Arizona and Nevada were out knocking on doors in addition to doing the online stuff and phone banks.

when it comes to vote flipping but didn’t all the Maine polls have her losing by like 8-10 points? How did she end up winning. Just bad polling methodology?

He has never been political in his entire life. He had a syndicated television show that was highly rated for over two decades. Picture a cross of Mr. Rogers and Steve Irwin and you have the idea. He finally retired last year.

In the last two weeks of the campaign, he filmed a series of commercials that emphasized Susan Collins deep roots in Maine and how it would be bad to have someone who recently moved to the state, Sara Gideon, try and represent Maine culture and values. The ads were totally devoid of political content and filled with nativist pride. They worked. Mainers were sick of political ads and eager to hear a good message about themselves. These commercials emphasized that Maine was good, Mainers were good for living there and Collins was part of a generations long Maine family just like the viewer. They eere 100% style over substance and Gideon couldn't figure out an effective counter to them in the short time remaining in the election.

My beef is not with you. It's with Maine Republicans. Why aren't there more Democratic voters in such a wonderful state?

Here's a post from today, Sunday, 1/24/21.

at the time.

However, the Joint Committee on Taxation expects the plan to increase the U.S deficit by $1 trillion over 10 years. The Congressional Budget Office and JCT said it would cut taxes overall, but families making less than $50,000 would pay $24.7 billion more by 2021. Families above $1 million would pay $28.7 billion less over that period.
