It seems every time an arrest is made, the identity of the person turning the insurrectionists in is revealed.
Why?
Wouldn't this deter tipsters who don't want to face violent retaliation from these whackjobs?
I have to wonder if Trump hangers on are involved.

(26,109 posts)1. More charges are likely, so the terrorists will be inside a long time.
FBI releasing names of tipsters?

(8,203 posts)2. I've wondered the same.
Even when they don't report names, they often provide enough information --like saying it's the alleged rioter's ex--to identify someone.
I provided a tip online and never dreamed that the person I provided information about might learn my identity.

Any examples?

There are many more examples from more mainstream sources.

(19,569 posts)7. I sure hope so.
In a way it's good, it shows other potential witnesses that decent people are turning in these violent whackos.
But I fear for their safety.

(89,250 posts)8. In many cases the names are known first through social media and other things
from people identifying them . So their names had already been out before the arrest or charges.
But to be a witness and have your name made public....
Remember what we are dealing with.
Terrorists.
