STOP with the POWER SHARING shit, Democrats....

Democrats worked hard enough to win the Senate back. DO NOT give Mitch McConnel any leeway to ursurp tbe Democrats in what they want to do. McConnell is cunning and his lust for power remains.

Call your Senators to demand they use that majority to pass legislation for the American people. NOT appease Republicans to get Bi-Partisan votes on bills. Power sharing did not go well between Octavian Caesar and Marc Antony after the death of Julius Caesar.

It's in the Constitution. It's legitimate and legal. The Dems have the Senate majority, Schumer is the majority leader and Harris is the president of the Senate.

It's 50-50 with the Democratic VP able to break ties on some floor votes. But the Senate is much more than floor votes and the VP has no vote in most of what the Senate does.

And the Constitution says nothing of political parties and how they must operate in the House and the Senate. Both chambers have rules which describe how to conduct their business. Rules that are not in the Constitution.

...that they don't have to work with us.

Right now it's 50/50. The VP's tiebreaker vote puts things in our favor, but not enough to dictate terms.

Please do some research, learn how the Senate works and what's really going on here. Among other things, some basic research would help you understand that the Democrats aren't offering to share power with the Republicans. In a 50-50 Senate, they already share power and need to work out how the Senate will operate with the Democrats having control.

There are countless threads in which people have explained this ad nauseum. You can read those and/or you can go online and read any number of detailed explanations.

Time again for a reality check. Getting bills passed takes a certain amount of compromise whether we like it or not, especially with a 50-50 senate. We won't always get what we want, but we can make progress.

They want Biden to govern just like Trump and for the Congressional Democrats to govern just like the Republicans did when they had the majority, including breaking the rules and stomping all over the minority. That's ok because our cause is just. But that was exactly what the Republicans thought about THEIR cause.

This is why we have rules.

there were posts here seriously wondering why Obama didn't just issue an executive order installing him onto the Court. Some people said he should just do it and basically tell anyone who opposed it to pound sand.

Or even the thread just yesterday when people insisted that members of Congress be arrested despite the Constitution's very black-and-white prohibition of it.

Fri Jan 22, 2021, 01:12 PM

The folks who insisted on this clearly didn't know enough about recess appointments to know that this would have given Trump TWO seats to fill - the Supreme Court seat that had become vacant again a couple of weeks before he was sworn in and the circuit court seat Garland had to give up in order to take the temporary Supreme Court appointment.

The internet and social media have many attributes. But one of the downsides is that they allow people to gather just enough information to believe they're experts because they can throw around terminology that they don't understand at all.

like Murkowski to switch sides. They could negotiate enormous concessions for their state.

That would put this conundrum to bed quickly.
