If Senate pukes agree never to use it - evah.
If they don't agree to that - fuck 'em.
McConnell never does anything in good faith...a snake is still a snake even after it sheds it's skin...

(85,996 posts)...better to face the reality of what the filibuster was intended for, originally, and what it's become.
In my view, it was introduced to Congress to make it difficult or impossible to advance reforms for southern blacks after Reconstruction. It's function today should be more than mindful of that sordid history.

(4,237 posts)There is nothing to agree to. Just what are we prepared to give up. If we surrender nuking the filibuster for ANY reason, we deserve the lack of progress that will allow.

(4,831 posts)Did the GOP's rules allow for doing away with the filibuster if they voted to do so? If so, there is no question the Dems should do the same.

(3,063 posts)but the 60 vote threshold is gone and it will be a simple majority from now on.
Impasse solved.
The way the senate is elected and the gerrymandering, the dems are unlikely to ever get a bill passed. Get rid of it now.

(13,095 posts)every state has 2 Senators gives smaller states disproportionate representation.
By design.
The fact that the small states are rural and rural has come to mean republican has had the consequence of tilting senate power heavily Republican-ward.
Add the filibuster and it becomes even more unbalanced.
I think it should go.
Small states still have the advantage the constitution built in.

Republicans do it all the time. Look at Merrick Garland and Amy Barrett. They establish a rule, then break it at their convenience.
I think it is wrong, despicable even, but maybe we could do it just once?
