(1,093 posts)In 1979, when I was in high school, athletes didnt make the mega millions they do today, and so it was that Hank Aaron made an appearance at a Vancouver, Washington appliance store to sign autographs. There were maybe 20-30 people there, not a big crowd at all, and Hank sat at a table chatting amiably and graciously signing publicity stillshe was a total class act. I was in a photography class at the time, and I spent around two hours buzzing around him taking a lot of pics and soaking in the reflected greatness. Since that time, Ive often looked back and marveled at how this cultural icon had to hustle to make a buck, but Im glad for the memory.
