I see you republicans. I see your bullshit call for unity.

2 fucking weeks ago. Just two weeks. YOUR PRESIDENT AND YOUR SENATORS sent a bloodthirsty mob of white supremacist seditionists to behead our democracy permanently. Your most ardent adherents were watching the inauguration WITH GLEE as they OPENLY FUCKING WISHED for the beheadings of democrats and other promienent officials. I watched your supporters on 1/6/21 (the day democracy nearly died, never forget.) bum rush the capital, hunt for elected officials, erect gallows, kill a police officer with a fire extinguisher, crush another in a door jam, menace another black officer so much that he was running for his life upstairs. We saw your supporters rush into the citadel of freedom and say “everyone take a seat”, “lets form a government”. I saw your presidents supporters plop their arrogant asses in the seat of power, swagger around the capital building as if it was theirs and theirs alone. The world watched as YOUR SUPPORTERS called for the hanging of our VP and Speaker of the House. We watched, in horror, as 14 fucking 7 of you in the house and two in the senate openly voted to overturn 250 years of unbroken democratic transfers of power.

And now your media, your politicians, your talking heads, your reporters have the unmitigated fucking gall to breathe A GODDAMNED WORD about UNITY?

Let me tell you all something: fuck unity on your terms. Fuck your empty gestures. Fuck your continued obstruction, corruption, racism, and nihilism. I am done. I am fucking done. I can’t believe YOUR senate MINORITY LEADER (lmao, btw) thinks he can straight up filibuster the rules that will govern the new senate. I can’t believe, after he rushed a supreme court nomination IN A FUCKING WEEK, he is now thwarting the will of the voters of not only Georgia, but every democrat who voted in every senate election accross the country. In the words of the great Greta Thunberg “HOW DARE YOU?”

Unless and until you convict and bar Trump from ever holding office again, expel the seditionists from your ranks, and start cooperating in government for the good of the country, not for the good of your fucking caucus, not for the good of the “GOP” (that needs to be retired, btw), not for the good of Donald J. Trump, but for the good of the country, there will be no unity. Accountability, self reflection, and true remorse precede unity. Without it, its not unity, it is once again the republicans pursuing absolute power as a ends itself. And THAT you fucking assholes, is what lead to the rise of the neo-fascist monster in your ranks that you now cannot control.

So fuck your version of unity. Because it leads to fascism. And we aren’t doing performative unity as appeasement to you traitorous assholes. WE WON THIS ELECTION. FUCKING CRY ABOUT IT

Senate dems, NOW is the time to nuke the filibuster. Fuck them. Its over, they have proven themselves dishonorable, DO NOT give them the tools to continue to smash our democracy to bits. Please have the courage to do the right thing.

I am impressed with our president's first 2 days, remove all of the Trump corruption.

Republican accusations that Biden, Schumer, Pelosi, or any othrt Dem is against unity is this: "It is the Republicans' responsibility to make amends and concessions toward unity. They are the ones who broke it in the first place by abetting an attack on the Capitol to overthrow a legitimate election."

Sometimes this is valid. We must remember the civil disobedience of the Civil Rights protestors. We must remember the courage of Henry Thoreau in protesting the Mexican War. Or Nelson Mandela? We cannot accept that the State is always right over freedom of conscience.

I wholly condemn the riotous mob who invaded the Capitol. But we do have to be careful about too much sovereignty. Isn't violating Britain's sovereignty what George Washington did--with violence?

And reflects the opinion of the vast majority. Party time is over. The Republicans either get on the train or we have the right to run right over them. Making excuses for Donald Trump, allowing him time to get his lies/defense in order is just one more seditious act. There is no excuse for what Donald Trump and Republican enablers have done to this country. The January 6th Capitol fiasco was the last desperate attempt to burn down the house. Arsonists don't get to wheel and deal.

Time to take the levers of power back. If Chuck Schumer has to club McConnell over the head, so be it. The time of nation-wrecking is over!

And they only talk about fiscal responsibility when the Democrats control the budget process.

I don't think the party that brought us the January 6th insurrection should be given any say in what the government does.
I think that there should be criminal charges brought against several Republican Senators and Representatives for their part in creating the climate of hate that led to violence in the Capitol.
I think we need to send a powerful message to all those legislators who facilitated this that words and actions have consequences.

Unity? No Effin' way!
Not until the Republicans put their house in order.
But I doubt they will ever do that. That party is rotten to the core.

but how many House bills did the Senate take up in the past year? In the past 4 years?

I've heard all about judicial nominees getting votes (after they denied votes for Obama's nominees) and naming of various buildings. How many bills originated in the House and sent to the Senate has mcturtle put out there for debate and vote?

I don't know where to find that exact number, but I read that it was astonishingly low. In other words, mcturtle has been blocking legislation for years - and this is just one more way he's trying to do it.

I've seen complaints (elsewhere) that are asking for the end of this sentiment, or a least the airing of it. And from progressives, no less. Self-styled maybe, but certainly not Tea Party of QAnon or anyone like that.

I say we're not seeing enough. It needs to be known that this is the operating mindset and sentiment of a VERY big part of the public. I'm not going to stretch it and say "most", because I truly don't believe it is. But it's big enough to be easily heard.

And it should be. This is the ethic under which blue congresspeople and senators need to be, if not working actively for, at the VERY least bearing it in mind.

The polloi are not so hoi any more, and it should be recognized in a big way, god damn it.

accountable. Ban him from ever holding elected office again, and then sue the pants off him in various state and federal courts. He deserves jail time for many years. Then censure Cruz, Hawley, and all the House seditionists.

But with a 50-50 tie vote and Joe Manchin vowing he will NEVER vote to get rid of the filibuster, Dems don't have the votes to do that.

As much as we'd like to scorch the Republicans, we are just one vote away from losing every vote. Plus, we are just two years from the mid-terms where we could lose control of either body. It will require maximum cooperation to pass Joe's agenda and make life better for Americans so they'll vote for more, not less Democratic representation.

Republicans held a comfortable margin all four years of Trump's term and had no need to compromise. Dems don't have that luxury.
