Oklahoma lawmaker proposes 'Bigfoot' hunting season
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) A mythical, ape-like creature that has captured the imagination of adventurers for decades has now become the target of a state lawmaker in Oklahoma.
A Republican House member has introduced a bill that would create a Bigfoot hunting season. Rep. Justin Humphreys district includes the heavily forested Ouachita Mountains in southeast Oklahoma, where a Bigfoot festival is held each year. He says issuing a state hunting license and tag could help boost tourism.
Establishing an actual hunting season and issuing licenses for people who want to hunt Bigfoot will just draw more people to our already beautiful part of the state," Humphrey said in a statement.
Humphrey says his bill would only allow trapping and that he also hopes to secure $25,000 to be offered as a bounty.
Micah Holmes, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, which oversees hunting in Oklahoma, told television station KOCO that the agency uses science-driven research and doesnt recognize Bigfoot.

(16,846 posts)left alone in their habitat. The reason we have hunting seasons is so we can control the populations of some animals without wiping them out. There's no one saying that the Bigfoot population is getting out of hand. No one can even seem to get a good picture of one.

(16,846 posts)I listen to sometimes. I learn all kinds of useful stuff, like what to do if Black-eyed Children come knocking on your door and what to call more than one Bigfoot. I never hear them giving this useful information out on CNN or anywhere.

(82,849 posts)Is Rep. Humphrey allowed to just roam the streets without supervision? What a knucklehead.
Put him in a bigfoot costume and drop him off in the Oklahoma woods.

(4,608 posts)Im not a hunter and dont believe in Bigfoot (... I dont think. Maybe.) but I sure as hell would pay for Bigfoot hunting license if I ever visited that area. Just because its a Bigfoot hunting license, man! Id love to be able to whip that paperwork out at people, lol! It would be even better if they gave you a laminated card to keep in your wallet.
Is this guy dead serious, or is it like I think, tongue in cheek??

(4,612 posts)the guy may be fully aware that there's no such thing as Bigfoot, therefore there isn't a Bigfoot to harm- though establishing a "hunt," as he notes, would bring lots more money into the area.
In other words, he's totally fine with fucking around with people who are kidding themselves if there's money in it. Pretty standard for Republicans nowadays.
