Knowing that he may have still been here,
had he been released to her. Say His Name. His death is a result of our justice system.

As the Wikipedia article explains, his accuser's story was full of inconsistencies and kept changing. The accuser eventually returned to Mexico, so the prosecutors would have been unable to prove the case in court. But it's unclear how long Browder was kept in Riker's after the prosecutors knew they had no case.

A sad and infuriating story that I had not been aware of until now.

What a conservative cannot see but should be obvious is on the black face the clear understanding of human consequence, possible remorse and human understanding. You can see depth. The white face shows the smirk that is obvious to reasoning people but apparently invisible to conservatives. The smirk that says, "I'm wrong, I know I am wrong, but I am getting away with it and there is nothing you can do about it." We have seen that face on Trump, Pharmaguy, Covington boy and any number of Trump associates. It is an expression that should alert and influence judges and juries.

We need to teach people in school to analyze faces. It might end up protecting them and giving us all herd immunity from herd behavior.

Unable to afford bail.

I was on a jury few years back we found the guy not guilty, they had zero evidence but he was Mexican in a mostly white area so I was glad me and teacher who was foreman fought to get not guilty. Anyway he was in jail for many months because he couldn't afford bail, lost his job, custody of his teen daughter he had total custody because his ex was on drugs, his house, everything.

I was so angry at our system after that.

Telling all prosecutors not to request it in the courts. Suspects can be detained until trial on a case-by-case basis, depending on the details of the case. But cash bail in general is effectively gone. Well, that's the plan. We'll see how it goes. He was just elected (I voted for him, and this is one of the reasons why) and time will tell how it all plays out.

eta: so many of the folks trapped in the hellhole that is Rikers are only there because they can't afford bail, and many of their cases are just bullshit, disproportionately impacting people of color as usual. Our so-called justice system is FUCKED UP
