(32,610 posts)My father was a WWII vet and a member of "the greatest generation". He absolutely hated that description.
I used to tease him by starting a sentence or question with "As a member of the greatest generation blah, blah, blah, "
He eventually thought it was funny.

DIRECTIONS
The Institute on World War II and the Human Experience is located in the Bellamy Building on the campus of Florida State University.
The Institute on WWII and the Human Experience originated in 1997 with a mission to preserve the memories and artifacts of the men and women who served in World War II. The interest is not only military related, but on home front experiences as well.
To that end, the Institute maintains a collection of diaries, letters, photographs, memorabilia, and comparable materials related to the everyday experiences of the participants in World War II. The commitment of the Institute to research and public awareness is demonstrated through public access to the collection and community outreach programs.
The largest and most significant collection is that of newscaster Tom Brokaw, author of The Greatest Generation, The Greatest Generation Speaks, and An Album of Memories. Brokaw donated his collection of letters and other materials used in his research for these best selling books.
Access to the Institute is available to the public by appointment.

My impression was that he just wanted Dumbya to be declared the winner without any hand recounts or respect for the democratic process.

(102,283 posts)formal education than you'd expect. I think he stood out for many reasons, but his being Canadian was, to me, a plus.
Brokaw's vocal mannerisms bugged me--along with his frequent RW bias, but I always credited his for is work on and with the WWII generation.

Turned out he was a self-absorbed, revisionist, entitled conservative when he used his own words.
