This is big. We've had some great women from up North as our Senators for many years, but i'ts about time for someone from the South land. I mean, this person seems real to me. I've undoubtedly eaten sandwiches made by his father! How cool is that. Moreover, he doesn't come out of the glitz of Hollywood and the West side - the 'old' center of political power in LA. I think he will well represent the manufacturing industry here - which is huge, and important.

(24,470 posts)That's where I started my (so-called) political activism back in 2003 at a meeting for supporters of Howard Dean.
I likely was fed by his father as well. Cool!

(38,316 posts)Three of my grandparents were manufacturing, two welders in the shipyards, one in aerospace.
And one Hollywood.
I like this post.
When I was a kid I mostly worked in Southern California manufacturing industries. I flunked out of Hollywood before I started Kindergarten.
My mom says I used to stare at very important people as if they were some sorts of interesting insect. As I recall, the insects were more interesting, which is probably how I ended up as a biology major.
Two of my siblings did better in Hollywood, but never managed to make full time careers of it. A sister is still union, and still on television occasionally.
I suppose the whole lot of us are "Hollywood Liberals."
Blame that on my grandma and her sister who didn't want to be California dairy industry wives and ran off to run wild in 1920's Hollywood.
