One insurrectionist, Jeff Sabol, apparently attempted to flee to Switzerland

The details of some of these cases are interesting:

[Assistant US Attorney] Gianforti claims that Sabol was trying to flee the country with a ticket to Zurich, Switzerland, which he notes is a non-extradition country.

Gianforti:

There's "overwhelming evidence" in this case, and Sabol attempted suicide, in a different kind of flight risk.

"I think that his suicide attempt can be taken as consciousness of guilt," the prosecutor adds.

Prosecutors claim Sabol helped the mob drag an officer down the stairs, though he hasn't been charged with that.

When they realize they will never be able to legally own firearms. To many of them their guns define their identities.

I'm pro choice. If they choose to end their miserable lives, let them!

So, we won't be able to prosecute, convict, incarcerate, or deny them access to firearms. Or monitor their activities when they get released.

We also won't have to spend time and money on a trial, and our tax dollars won't pay to keep them in prison.

As you pointed out, only several will choose this option. The bulk of them will go through the justice system, at the taxpayers expense. I don't mind paying for that, but it's a shame we have to.
If they decide not to put themselves or US through all that, I applaud them.

Very pricey.
Stayed down the street from the Grand Hotel of Smoke on the Water fame.
It was undergoing renovations, so I couldn't go in.

I saw more than one person involved in dragging a cop down some steps.

One of the main guys dragging the cop looked like a former RW nutcase at one of my previous jobs, but not quite. The insurrectionist seemed to have a "widow's peak" hairline and the former coworker did not, but it was a VERY close resemblance otherwise.

... a couple weeks ago because an article described Sabol as wearing a helmet and backpack.

The traitor that I saw pulling on a cop's leg wasn't wearing a helmet or backpack. (He's the guy who resembled a right-wing coworker freak, but not quite.)

attention.

Under the current Covid-19 restrictions, unless he has Swiss nationality (??), is a Swiss or Schengen Area resident, or has a legitimate business purpose, he will NOT be allowed to enter Switzerland.

https://ch.usembassy.gov/covid-19-info/

In relevant part ....

"Are U.S. citizens permitted to enter? YES, but not for tourism.
At this time the United States remains on the list of high-risk countries and U.S. citizens will remain subject to the current entry and transit restrictions. Contact the nearest Swiss Embassy or Swiss Migration Office (corona@sem.admin.ch) and your airline.
December 21, 2020: The Federal Council has introduced a general entry ban from today for all foreign nationals seeking to enter Switzerland from the UK and South Africa.
Transiting Switzerland from the United States to another country may not be possible depending on the final destination. Currently the Swiss Immigration Office does not allow individuals traveling from the United States or other high risk countries to transit Switzerland to another Schengen country, unless all entry requirements for Switzerland have been met. It may be possible to transit Switzerland from the United States or other high risk country to a non-Schengen country. Passengers transiting Switzerland from a high risk country, like the United States, to a Schengen country have been denied onward travel and returned to their country of origin. Travelers from high risk countries like the United States are encouraged to travel directly to their final Schengen destination without transiting Switzerland. For the most current restrictions and travel requirements, please see the FAQ page and the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration Office information page.
There is the possibility to enter Switzerland for important business meetings which cannot be postponed and must be in person. At this time, a special entry permit is needed to enter Switzerland for business travel from non-Schengen countries. This application can be sent directly to corona@sem.admin.ch, including for example the following documents: appointment confirmation, copy of passport, travel itinerary, reason for urgency of appointment/visit, and the reason for the need to be present personally."
