Help me understand: Why would a R congresscritter WANT to carry a gun onto the floor ?

A gun in your car ? I can understand that.
A gun in your house ? I can understand that.
A gun in your private business to protect it ? I can understand that.
Concealed carry if you're doing it legally and have some rational reason to do so ? Ok.

But carrying a gun onto the House or Senate floor ? I do not get that, at all. The House and Senate floors are about as safe as any place in the entire country. Yes, there was that incident in 1954. There was the violent insurrection recently. There have been occasional fistfights and the infamous caning in the 1850's. Perspective though... this is over a 232 year history.

To be very clear, I do NOT carry at all or even have a gun. I know many DU'ers do.

Help me understand why a Republican/Fascist Party congresscritter would carry on the House or Senate floor.

Thanks.

Steve

That's my take on it.

That's going to be a very expensive gun if he keeps trying to bring it in. $5,000 per violation.

and the installation of metal detectors. What this particular idiot's motivation was is, since there are detectors now, is a mystery. Perhaps he was so in the habit that he forgot and strapped up as per usual before he left his house?

Who knows? He was fore-warned and I hope the 5k is deducted from his check.

With all the random carriers right now popping up right now, I'm wondering how many have been carrying all the time. As I understand, concealed is allowed in the building and offices, as long as the gun is unloaded, but they are absolutely forbidden on the House and Senate floors. So either they're intentionally doing some gun rights performance for their constituents, or they're too lazy to walk back to their office and leave it there.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Capitol Police on Friday were investigating an incident in which a Republican lawmaker was found carrying a concealed gun while trying to enter the floor of the House of Representatives, a Capitol official said.

Republican Representative Andy Harris, a staunch gun-rights advocate, set off a magnetometer going through security on his way to the House floor late on Thursday and was found to be carrying a firearm, according to a congressional press pool report

It's pretty much the same as taking your AR-15 to the grocery store. You don't need it to protect yourself or anyone else; you are making a political statement (Gunz! Yeah!) as well as showing off to the people who think that guns are evidence of toughness and manliness that you are tough and manly.

do something awesome, like stop a crime.

And one walks around with and relishes those reciprocal feelings of power and responsibility.

Eventually, it falls into the background. After a time, one goes about daily life not always thinking about the gun one is always carrying.

And then, one wants to go into auditorium where guns are not allowed.

Suddenly, that power -- although in the background of one's mind -- is stripped away. And it is unbearable.

Now that I have been a superhero, how can I exist on Earth as an ordinary human, if only for a few hours? Such is the life of a gun humper.

Even though I've been threatened with guns and sliced open with a knife.

I simply can't imagine living in that kind of fear.

Either it's not real to them, which is likely true for most gun fetishists, or they've embraced the fear, or worst of all, they think it's a game.

Gun fetishists and their enablers are so fucking pathetic.
