Genesee County in Michigan doesn't seem to be getting the vaccine in enough quantity. They 'refresh' the vaccination location sites and available appointments every Monday night but I got tired of checking. As of now the first appointment is some time close to mid-February!! Then I noticed a pre-registration option so I immediately filled it out.
I'm going to make a note that I signed up, today, and see how long it is before I'm called. I'm being super careful, but all it takes is one little slip-up. (No more 'impulse' trips to Aldi, for now.) Hopefully with President Biden calling the shots (pardon the pun) supplies will start arriving. I am MOST anxious to get this vaccination. I'll wear a mask all summer - that's fine. I just want some degree of comfort

(26,263 posts)I'm being careful, limiting any shopping to necessities.
Admittedly, I'm a bit of a weirdo with viruses - I've never had flu (or I've never been symptomatic) and really don't suffer much from other viruses. I had Shingles and while I was a little uncomfortable, I never missed a step.
I was closely exposed to Covid back in early March when my brother had it, and was over to my house, several times, when he would likely have been HIGHLY contagious but before anyone really knew what was going on. He got really sick and I was fine. Coincidentally, I had a slight head cold at the time. I've read there's some thought that having one type of coronavirus might help mitigate another. Or, I did catch it and was asymptomatic. I'll probably never know.

(32,686 posts)A week weeks ago. Talked to my doc and she said it looks like a month or 2. Depends on how much the state can get. My SO is a nurse at an assisted living home. She still has not got hers. Her job is in Midland Co.
just have to try and staySafe.

(17,442 posts)I got an email saying they had not finished the first group yet and that there are 35,000 registered in my group, which is the second priority. They are "hoping" they will get through them in the next two months but are receiving less than 3,000 first doses per week. They basically said don't call us, we'll call you when it is time to make an appointment. They are not scheduling appointments for my tier at this time.
I remain isolated ...

(18,402 posts)Ive been checking the website of the hospital with which all our doctors are affiliated for several weeks. Finally, today they have some information. They will contact me automatically when its my turn to schedule an appointment. But Im not holding my breath.
There are more than 600,000 in my category in the city, and were only getting 34,000 doses each week. Overall, in the state, this group People 65 and older, teachers, first responders, grocery store workers and others deemed essential workerstotals more than 3 million people. Its going to take several months.
But Im happy nonetheless!

(11,470 posts)They are having a drive through vaccine thing today and tomorrow but its only for medical and teachers. People older than 80 start mid Feb. Said it would take 16 weeks from then to finish all of the older groups. My hubby is in group 4 over 70, group 5 is over 65.
I turn 65 in July so I guess thats about when I will qualify.

(18,402 posts)can speed things up for you. In the meantime, stay safe. Were all going to have to lie low through the summer, probably. If we dont go stir crazy before then!

(11,470 posts)Is having a baby in April and I wanted to visit while he was still small. Its just so hard, my step daughters baby we only saw him once last year. We live out of state from them which makes it harder to visit like in a park.
I did make a airbnb res end of Aug on the coast going whether I get shots or not, will just clean more added to their cleaning.
I am climbing the walls, travel is kind of my thing.
But I keep busy with zoom classes and walks.

(18,402 posts)I know what youre going through: I barely got to see my newborn twin granddaughters this past year, except during walks in the park several times this summer. And then they were mostly asleep in the stroller. And now they have just turned a year old! Theyve never seen us without masks.
But take heart ... there will be many years ahead to make memories with your new great-grandchild. In the meantime ... Zoom!
