(34,015 posts)I don't own Adobe Photoshop, but I found a cut out of Bernie and pretty soon he was at my family events.
It was probably more fun for me to put Bernie in all these places than it was for people to see Bernie in all these places. However, someone put Bernie on the Dating Game and that was hilarious!
Politicub
(12,327 posts)You may not understand or find humor. But try and think of a celebrity who makes you laugh or who is memorable for you. Im sure you will have your own good and considered reasons as to why someone is important.
And I like to think about the mystery (or magic?), of why a moment goes viral and inspires others to imitate it or create their own art. The picture spawned improvisation. Like jazz, it spawned creative expressions as people used the image in their own improvisations. Andy Warhol was masterful at creating viral art.
You may never think its funny. And thats okay. But what is accessible to you is appreciation of the magic of something that becomes instantly iconic.
There are pieces of art I do not personally understand, am affected by, or that grate on me Bob Dylans voice, for instance. And while I can learn about (and appreciate) why others are attracted to him, hes not a singer whose songs will ever make it onto one of my iPhone music playlists.

I spent a good amount of time on Twitter looking at some of the memes and photoshop. Quite a few made me laugh out loud. Most were meh, and the brands that co-opted the image were boring.
I did like learning about who designed Bernies parka it was from a Burlington, Vermont-based company called Burton. I didnt notice the coat as much as the mittens. But after I looked at the coat and Burton, I want it.

(12,327 posts)His mittens were made of reclaimed wool and a gift from a pre-school teacher four years ago. Talk about on-Brand.
And the coat he was sporting was from a local designer in Burlington, Vermont (Burton, $200).
He was as successful at being a fashionista, the more I think about it.
George II
(67,782 posts)...."dahling". And many of the pictures that have shown up on the internet were done to demonstrate how out of place that attire was.
Politicub
(12,327 posts)tones evoked optimism.
The men's black suits were blah. I think most of them were Ralph Lauren. I think of formal menswear as utilitarian more than respectful.
Lady Gaga's dress was avant garde, and I loved it. Garth Brooks' jeans were uninspired.
Bernie was memorable and not disrespectful. He didn't make a show of himself or try to steal the spotlight.
I know you have an army of others who "share your opinion," and now you know mine. It's a fashion fight!

George II
(67,782 posts)Plus, there's a suit and tie under the coats of every one of the men whose pictures I included in my post.
Here's how the senior Senator from Vermont dressed for the Inauguration (suit and tie and all):

(21,615 posts)The ethos is we're not sheep. We do our own thing. Pat Leahy, who I admire more than Bernie, does his own thing. Bernie does his. Jesus H. Freaking Christ, George, can you not lighten up just a tiny bit? Ugh.
George II
(67,782 posts)And there's a time and a place for "lightening up". The Inauguration of a President isn't it. It's known as showing respect for the occasion.

(342 posts)The right wing is the political element in this country that is supposed to dwell on political correctness and sameness. Beyond that, free expression is all-American. Further, do we even know what medical conditions Bernie may have that make him want to sit and have warmer hands than gloves would provide. Maybe he has poor circulation. I did over-hear a casual conversation about how the mittens were a special gift many years ago and that he wears them on special occasions. Haven't fact-checked that. He was wearing nice shoes and looked to be in dress slacks. Perfectly presentable, if curmudgeonly, and besides, he wasn't anywhere close to the center of attention in that audience.

George II
(67,782 posts)You were saying?
Autumn
(48,763 posts)you would have complained that he was trying to upstage the inauguration because of course that would have drawn attention too.
Dr Gott says Dr. Anderson is full of shit. So does Harvard.
So people taking warfarin need frequent blood tests to see if the dose needs to be adjusted. Also, warfarin takes five to seven days to become fully active as an anticoagulant. Finally, it causes other side effects besides bleeding, primarily hair loss, fatigue, and a cold feeling.
Coumadin does carry the side effects of cold intolerance and paresthesias, including feeling cold and chills. I suggest your family member speak with her physician.
Perhaps a change in medication is appropriate.
Other than that, she should wear layers and avoid going out in the cold or being in an air-conditioned building whenever possible.
Because you mention blood thinning as the cause, I would like to take this opportunity to talk about what Coumadin actually does. It is commonly thought that Coumadin and its generic form, warfarin, work by actually thinning the blood.
George II
(67,782 posts)....what medication he's taking? And when did Dr. Gott say Dr. Anderson is full of shit?
Gosh, this is amazing - you know what I would have done and you know what Dr. Gott said about Dr. Anderson.

(12,327 posts)Bernie didn't detract from that, for me. If anything, he added to it since I laughed at many of the photoshops of him in the chair afterward.
Others seem to be really salty over his clothes, like he was wearing a garbage bag. It was cold and snowing, and I like his Vermont chic. And I love Vermont (it was where I married my husband before I could marry him anywhere else), and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

(1,123 posts)God only knows we need that in our lives. For those of you who are irritated, just ignore it. The fad will fade.
But you know who REALLY loves the whole thing? Local yarn shops and Etsy - yarn and patterns for mittens as well as the finished product are flying off shelves. Who knew this would be an economic stimulus? 😃
Truth be told Bernie was probably the only warm person in the crowd. Fashionable? No - but most certainly warm.

(21,615 posts)I don't like everything Sanders says or does and he's my senator. I'll admit I lean more towards Pat Leahy. I guess because he reminds me of my father and one of my grandfathers. Same look. Same politics. Then again, I don't like everything about anyone. But, for the love of God, put your personal animosity aside for a bit and embrace the humor. We've had so little of that the last 4 years. Jebus, folks, enjoy life even though there are those in life you don't like. Ugh.

(13,829 posts)Bernie was in the audience, not up front. It's okay how he dressed. It was cold, and he's an old guy, ok? I don't care if you don't like him. I get mad at him sometimes too. I voted for him in the primary in 2016, not last year (I voted for Warren). My son-in-law is a pretty hard-core Democratic Socialist and a Bernie fan and that's okay. I think the memes are funny. If you don't, just go on. That's all.

Oh...and maybe something else that's kinda good about this story. This local news station was about to shutter its doors several years ago, but was bought by the staff, thanks to some crowdfunding. It's the only employee-owned TV station in North America.
