https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/next-stimulus-check-congress-speed-153600418.htmlCongress plans to take steps this week toward quickly passing President Joe Biden's coronavirus aid proposals, including a third wave of direct relief payments for most Americans.
The next batch of stimulus checks would be for $1,400 to top off the $600 payments that started going out in late December.

[The new Senate]could make it easier for the new checks to pass, though there are a few potential challenges.
Here's what to expect this week, plus the latest estimate on when you're likely to get more cash.

But the Democrats' new majority in the Senate is as thin as can be, and even a few Democrats may balk..
...if there's a struggle to pass the president's entire aid package. They say the $1,400 direct payments and money for vaccine distribution could be pulled out into a separate bill that might win quick approval, maybe with support from Republicans.
SNIP
If both the House and Senate are able to approve the new stimulus checks early next month which is indeed possible you could receive yours by late February.
But if there are any snags and those are also possible you might have to wait until March or even April.

(639 posts)The GOP faces no filibuster in the 177th Congress. Well, at least for the 1st session of the 117th.
McConnell needs the filibuster and will abuse it, "Like Nobody's Ever Seen" to paraphrase Trump.
If the Dems can kill off the filibuster, it means every Senate vote will be a simply majority, up or down, win or lose procedure.
Of course some things, like a Presidential veto override or war declaration needs a super majority to pass.
Killing the filibuster is what is needed, for Dems to pass anything. The GOP will be forced to compromise without the filibuster, and actually talk about the bill's content instead of "Just saying No" (another paraphrase there, from the nancy).
I say kill it, as it was and is the sole method to continue institutional racism. If there is, at the end of the 117th's first session, proof of compromise and forward progress on our health, economy and social reforms...then keep it killed for the second session.
In the 2022 & 2024's elections, show how bills were only passed, with compromise, and only after the filibuster was killed.
Run for election & re-election on that one issue. Keep the filibuster in it's grave to force compromise.

(5,249 posts)I supposedly have my direct deposit info in the IRS system, not by receiving a tax refund, but I entered it at the Get My Payment site for the $1200 last spring and did receive that eventually, via direct deposit.
I just got three weeks of unemployment this morning, thanks to the Alabama Department of Labor, so I'm not hurting for cash now. The system allowed the nice lady in Montgomery to approve me for the retroactive payments due to a glitch in the online application procedure.

(5,249 posts)I will probably owe some taxes so it will help pay that. It's where I expected it to go toward anyway. I still don't have all my W2s but they should show up here this week.

(14,253 posts)that since I still haven't gotten mine and the Get My Payment site on irs.gov says no info available, that I won't get it until I file tax returns and claim the recovery rebate.
